Former U.S. defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld has announced he is working on a memoir, which will be released in 2010.
The as-yet-untitled book will be "a story that will span my lifetime," Rumsfeld said. Rumsfeld spent much of his life in government service, most recently under U.S. President George W. Bush, and is considered the architect of the War in Iraq.
He says profits from the book will be donated to a foundation which encourages public service among young people. Full story:

The only circumstance under which I'd read Donald Rumsfeld's memoir would be if somebody gave it to me and I had nothing else to read. The only reason to try to understand his thoughts is because he's a dangerous ideologue and puppet master (the puppet is his president, just in case you're wondering) with real power, but that'll end soon, and I have no interest in his post hoc justifications of the hawkish follies he promoted. I'll wait for real historians I respect to write their assessments.

I'm sure everything he will write will be done to impress all of us, so what's the point.
We won't be told the exact truth, only what he wants us to read. He will want all of us
to come away with a very high regard for him.
I'm not going to be sucked in thanks. I have my opinion of him from his time as secretary
of defence, and a couple of biographical tv shows, so I will be satisfied with that.

Tell Donald he can send me a bank draught or a certified cheque and I'd be happy to put his book right up beside Mein Kampf on the book shelf....between Das Kapital and Atlas Shrugged....

I wonder how much of the book will be classified, and if the printers will go the extra mile to simulate genuine "top secret" documents by making most of the book look like it's been rendered unreadable with black marker

If the book contains actual truth it'll be a VERY short read

I found it fascinating but leading the reader into fantasy without acknowledging the real nature of either capitalism or people in general.
