Mistreatment and torture of prisoners was rampant in Korea as well. Canadians (my father told me what I know..) as well as Americans routinely applied physical and emotional inducements....

The laugh as far as the American stance on "torture" is in my opinion that the world watched as ATF FBI and various other government agencies played music at deafening levels and used every psychological weapon in the arsenal on women and chldren at Waco...

Torture was routinely used by Americans to keep their black slaves in line..... Nothing new under the sun....

True, but once again, when countries such as the one in question in this thread go around preaching they're on the higher road to those they call evil doers, yet do the exact same things...... it not only blows their own credibility out of the water, but actually makes them worse then the evil doers they're fighting.

At least these countries admit to it and don't hide that they do it. Bush claims the US doesn't use torture, yet he won't allow a bill to actually make sure they don't do it. How screwed up is that?

Would you prefer to live in the countries the US is fighting?

I'd prefer that Americans get a grip on the hypocrisy of their own ideology government and psychology.

When you're a one-trick-pony....your strategy is to kill anyone and everyone who doesn't please your inflated and phony "moral superiority"....alternatives aren't even considered.

Screw em.

Irrelevent question.... I do not want to live in those countries just as much as I don't want to live in the US. I can not choose between them, because to me they're in the same category..... countries which I do not want to visit on choice alone.

I live in Canada and I see no other reason at this time to move anywhere else. Why the hell would I want to choose any of the countries in which the US is currently destroying in one fashion or another?

You said they do the exact same things. The US is much different than any of the countries in which its forces are in armed conflict.

You know...I was up in arms at the whole way Wacco was handled by Clinton and Co. I mean it was Janet Reno that approved the whole operation. Not very liberal of them now was it. I am just wondering if there were any armed MEN at Wacco or was it just women and children? Was it women and children that killed the ATF agents?

I have created a draft letter than members of Congress can improve on and sign for delivery to the Oval Office.

"Dear President G W Bush,

You Mr Bush are the worst President in American history. You have not shown one iota of credible critical thinking since your arrival in office. You can either get out of the way to let this country attempt to rebuild itself from your disasterous administration, or we will move forward as if you are not in office. If you Mr Bush veto this legislation we will not approve any more war spending. Got it? Have a nice day.

Yours truly,

Everyone in Congress"

I'm sure many republican members of congress would sign it as well, maybe
anonimously, but they would do it.

I'm sure most Republicans would concede that second place isn't even close. I don't understand why he is so focused on being a swashbuckling idiot.

I can't even stand the site of his face any longer, and when he comes on TV now, I
immediately change the channel before he begins to speak, (if we can call it that).
He's a total embarrassment.
The only thing positive about vetoing the torture ban, is that, it could be used on
him, (just wishful thinking).

Yes, Congress should table a bill that not only requires the US to join the International Criminal Court but moves the ICC to Guantanimo Bay.

The Russians are very brutal torturers, too!!! I saw photos and read stories how they tortured the Chechen!! Up to 5000 men have simply disappeared. Some were found with their organs removed! It doesn't take much to connect the dots to illegal organ trade.

I am like Praxius, for now I feel safe and good living in Canada. Let us be on guard for signs of torture in our own system. We must scream the first time it happens!

Pretty hard for us to point fingers at them unless we can do it from higher ground.

Stop trying to put all your eggs in one basket.... My comment was in reference to them using torture techniques, not classifying them as identical in everyway.... come on now, stop wasting time.

I've heard we've done some not so nice things too.

Perhaps, but what are those in which you speak of?

If you are referring to the military handing over detainees to Afghan officials and them torturing them when in their hands, that is not us, and those soldiers of ours are following their orders to turn them over. When it was known and made a stink of, it was stopped until it could be somehow monitored. This situation is still foggy today, but I see no proof yet in which we are directly involved in those tortures, let alone using any information obtained by torture, unlike in the US where they purposely send them off to forign countries to do their dirty work. They send them purposely for interrogation by methods in which they don't want to be caught doing in their own country. We pass detainees over to Afghan officials, because they are supposed to be running their country, not us.
