The Fairness or Unfairness of Property Tax Evaluation.

Toronto, Ottawa, Brampton, Hamilton and London take five of the top six spots when compared with over 30 municipalities across Canada. Toronto ranked first with the highest taxes paid on average at $3,912, followed by Brampton at $3,826. Ottawa was third at $3,532; Hamilton and London were close behind at $3,305 and $3,078 respectively.

Two factors influence a homeowner's tax bill; the house's value and how much money the city needs for the delivery of services.

Remember, like all tax disputes, the government considers you to be guilty until proven innocent.
Talk back: How do you fight soaring property taxes?

The process seems quite laborious and intimidating to me!!

I live in the area. Tax burden is so high nobody cares about property tax. But what really bothers me is that my household pay crap load of taxes, yet we have to cut our waste to 1 bag of waste a week. It doesn't mean if you have 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 etc. people living in your household, you gotta have 1 bag, 2 blue boxes and 1 green box. Sucks that my council didn't provide 2 blue box though. That is really frustrating, my family is dirty, but hey! If we are so damn green why we get 1 bag of waste?! On the other note conservative mayor decided so, talk about less government.

Hi, Milko;

you know what? It takes getting used-to to really sort your household wastes!!! And that's what they want us to do! We want and must cut down on stuff that goes into landfill sites!!! I take it as a challenge, and sort thoroughly and effectively. It takes me four or more weeks to fill a garbage bag! I have two blue boxes, and I use one for paper and cardboard only - the other one takes all plastic, glass and tin items. I have two composters in my yard, where everything organic from the kitchen goes, as well as stuff from the garden.

You have to enjoy this job, Milko!:smile: Train the kids, too! To me it is fun and it gives me great satisfaction to do my part for the environment. ;-)

I could be wrong, but I think people are allowed four bags of garbage to be placed outside on garbage day here in Chatham. I only ever place one out at a time as I currently live on my own.
