BioShock Wins Game of the Year - Full VGA Winners List

by PacoDG

I am honestly *slightly* shocked that BioShock, as beautiful game as it was, has turned out to be the winner in this years Video Game Awards. Despite my little personal issues with BioShock, I am happy that it managed to beat out Halo 3 (aka Halo 2.5). It is amusing that I have no intention of watching the show nor do I even know what channel Spike TV comes on with my cable, but I do love lists, and the final list of winners is out on CNN via PR Newswire (before the show has aired! Which is tomorrow December 9th at 9pm btw). Full list after the break.

Meh no games of real interest in that list. Maybe mario.

I tried to get CoD4 on my system, but it's too old for the game, so until I get a new system that game won't even exist for me.

Bioshock is an amazing game, it is very original and the story is quite good.

I own just about everyone of the game on that list, I'm a geek... yup. lol

I'm frankly pissed with the change in video game systems to 3D games.

Make a system with games like the original Marios, just a tad more polished, and I'd happily buy it. As it is, we've spent hundreds of dollars outfitting a game system that makes me motion sick within ten minutes of starting most games. Guitar Hero's the only one with a small enough amount of movement for me to play it. Grrr.

Karrie, you need to take a graval before playing. You have a Wii, doesn't that fit the bill for the polished Mario look?

I don't have a Wii, I've played Wii's, and don't recommend the investment. As for the Mario on Wii... all 3D. Sick making like you wouldn't believe. The sports games it comes with are more stationary, much less nauseating. But, they are so simplistic and easy to master once you figure out that miniscule wrist flicks work better than actual motion, that it's quickly boring to play on a regular basis.

Oh, and I'm so chemical sensitive that popping gravol would get me about 20 minutes of play, tops, before I passed out.

My bad, I thought you said you had a Wii. I guess some people are more susceptible to motion sickness in games, I have never had a problem with it.

Well, and some games are worse than other. My little brother, who's played video games all his life with no apparent major issues, was playing Crash Nitrocart Racing with my son just the other day, and he had to walk away after one race. I can't watch it for more than one lap.

(And I wrote a review in 'rant and rave' about using the Wii at Christmas, so it's an understandable impression)

Well get the vice off your wallet and get a console that you can play COD4 on, if your broke and can't shell out 300 plus the 50 for a game may I suggest the "Orange Box", 6 games for the price of one and I'm sure it will work on your system.

COD4 is a decent game, the single player portion was quite good, almost cinematic. I have been playing the online portion for a while now and it has good replay value. The "Orange Box" is an awesome deal, Episode 2 and team Fortress 2 are amazing. I play both COD4 & the Orange Box on my pc as a I can't stand playing FPS's on a console... I find the controls to be too sloppy.

Sports games, music games and hack and slash games I reserve for playing on my PS3.

True, controls on a pc are better but if you don't use console controllers for FPS's you will never learn how to use them, I find them quite easy now.

You bought a PS3? Sorry to hear that.

I had a 360 for about 1.5 years and went through multiple "red rings of death" and their horrible customer support. The 360 has a flawed design, hence the retroactive replacement of consoles affected by the RROD. I had enough of MS's BS and told them to stuff the console up Bill Gates rear.

I never had that issue but I did lose my hard drive, called them up, they told me where to send it and I got a new one in about 5 weeks.

The new 360's are rolling out now without the red ring problem, plus the games are better and the online play is way more stable than Sony's. The only thing Sony has going for it is the Blue Ray but I already bought one so that means nothing to me.

I also own a wii which is alot of fun playing with other people in the same room, just have to watch you don't get a wii-mote in the face.

The online play with the PS3 is stable, it's just not as refined as Live. With the PS3, developers provide their own servers opposed to using the Live environment. Sony has a long way to go to catch up to MS in the online dept.

I'm just waiting for the next installment of Grand Theft Auto to come out, from the screen shots I have seen it looks quite good... hopefully it has some decent online functionality built into it.

I'm waiting for the same thing, and I agree, online play with the ps3 is pretty good. Until there's more games out, I'm kind of stuck with Warhawk, I didn't like COD3 and COD4 is still sold out in my local electronics stores here in Berlin.

I'm really new to 3d console gaming.. I'm still kind of stuck on NES and Sega Mastersystem style of games.. the games I really did like, like Karrie.

Andem, COD4 is a blast. I didn't care much for 2&3, the whole WW2 genre is pretty stale in my opinion.

I have been playing Heavenly Sword and Devil May Cry 4 lately, both of them are quite fun, provided you like the hack 'n slash genre.

I am glad that Bioshock won Game Of The Year, as it was a blast to play. Even though I don't have the type of system to crank up the graphics all the way, it still looked freaking awesome! The music, sound effects, the ambiance as a whole was superb(and surreal!). Plus, the storyline was amazing. The only things I did NOT like about Bioshock was the SecurROM protection and the fact that you have limited times you can install the game before you can't anymore(even though you can just call them and ask you to get more, why should you have to? I shelled out hard-earned money for the game. Don't treat me like a pirate.:angryfire:). The Collector's Edition version was the bomb!

I have yet to buy the Orange Box, but I recently bought the Half-Life 2: Holiday 2006 collection. I will play that first, and then play the Orange Box.

The game I'm currently playing is Neverwinter Nights 2. It is fun, but it took a little getting used to after just finishing Neverwinternights and the two expansion packs for it.

Pick yourself up one of those Nitendo DS's. They have many Zelda/Mario versions of the new games out now, but are mostly still 2D. That and you can take it anywhere. I'm sure they also have plenty of other games available for the DS.
