Building new residences in a place that will inevitably suffer another disasterous flood is simply so idiotic......

Almost as idiotic as the idea of starting an armed, shooting rebellion over municipal politics.

Obviously I read a little bit about this.

The protesters seem a little out of line..........not to say stupid........

Perhaps they are saying they would rather see the poor flooded out again.

``drug dealing, gang banging, welfare gobbling people never added anything benificial to anything.``

Drugs = CIA

gang banging = American troops in Abu Ghraib

welfare gobbling = American corporate fatcats

Jefferson did say that a little revolution now and then was a good idea. After all, it was not the citizens but the pols and the police who are stomping on the Constitution in this case.;-)

On Fat Tuesday, the day before Lent, one uses up all the fat one won't use during Lent. To the folksy French, it became a cause to celebrate - and party, they did.

Woof!

Gopher,
Mayor Naggin wasn't even in attendance. He had said earlier in the day it was to be the "Council's night to shine." I'll bet he knew from the start what was going to happen. But in retrospect look at how the promised federal relief monies have never arrived and also many of the private relief organizations did pull out due to encountering numerous political barriers including rampant corruption. The new Louisiana governor will have his hands full when he tackles the corruption issues in New Orleans and the commoners just languish in their tents across from city hall. Like Lone Wolf said the "haves" don't care. They have theirs already and aren't uncomfortable so why should they be motivated to act to make things work better? I saw on the news the other evening that over 100,000 people are still being fed by some agency at various locations. The tragedy still continues and the GWB/Cheney gang looks the other way. The first flight over the storm damaged area the day following it being decimated by the storm while returning from the Crawford, TX ranch and the continuation of Air Force 1 into Washington spoke volumes to me. It really shows now too doesn't it?

Nagin is undoubtedly one of the most inept pols in the USA. What the people of that beleaguered city ever saw in that nitwit is beyond all human comprehension.

``the promised federal relief monies have never arrived``

And nitwitted Nagin did nothing to force the Fed's hands into doing it. Obviously, he has knuckled under to corporate interests who want to build up fancy condos and to make the beach front a haven for the wealthy.

``many of the private relief organizations did pull out``

I had not heard of this but am not surprised. The bureaucrats probably impeded their efforts and offered no protection from petty thievery and other impediments.

``100,000 people are still being fed by some agency at various locations.``

It has been two and one half years -- by now the infrastructure should have been largely if not fully restored. Private industry should have re-emerged so that people could work and feed themselves without assistance. Obviously, the businesses were given Federal dollars but chose to pocket the money rather than to re-invest in the community.

``The tragedy still continues``

Yet, all we get is rosy pictures of people celebrating football victories.

What the pols and cops did in keeping New Orleans' citizens from voting in that council meeting was reminiscent of the old poll taxes. The people did not commit any crimes in ''rioting'' as it was reported by the controlled right wing media. The real criminals were the pols, the cops, and the corporate interests that put tax dollars into the pockets of the wealthy while keeping the poor on breadlines. This is why the citizens of New Orleans should exercise their Constitutional rights by arming themselves and taking back the government and the money that is rightfully theirs.

I was a part of a USAR (Team # 6) and when we arrived the only effective Rescue Operation going was a volunteer group from Vancouver, BC. and man that bunch had it altogehter too. They had established a communications system, a medical triage and treatment system and also an plan about how to get things started. The local city, county and state geeks were standing around with their fingers in their collective posteriors. It took the US four more days (other than the US Coast Guard copter heroes) to get anything effective running. Naggin was criusing in a big Hummer with a lift kit on it. Very expensive wheel and it was handled by his secutity team and chauffer. Why does a Mayor require this level of protection? My guess is the other guys who didn't vote for him have a plan to replace him ASAP. And it continues even today. Position in Louisiana means wealth. Money decisions know no bounds and this whole city council may be constitutionally elected but they are certainly owned by other interests. I did find out that if you couldn't find a job in the city, apply for a fire or police job. Low salaries but good perks when you write tickets or do other official inspection duties. Freedom does have its price you know.

Now the federal Spin Doctors have arrived in New Orleans to get this all "sorted out." What that means is gibbereish for "lets get the focus on something else." This is nothing more than a good game of poker and the winner has a card or two up is sleeve. The federal government is never going to let a story like this in the mainstream media play out like it should. They have their own "Doctor" of the Information Ministry like Dr. Goebbels was in the Third Reich. It is his turn to earn his keep.

Common scum, imported or not, do not vote, and they certainly are not entitled to sit and vote at city council beside the mayor.

These same people, who looted the city in response to Katrina, are unemployed or career criminals.

The proposition that weapons should be used against them was accepted and tried by the police with nation wide TV coverage, when looters were scavenging the abandoned city of New Orleans.

The proposition that weapons be used against them, beyond pepper spray, when they are only causing major disruption and minor damage to public property is excessive and
unnecessarily heavy handed. The law abiding citizens will pay for the police and the repairs and replacements to public property.

How left wing conspiracists can turn this event into phoney political posturing is easy, they have practised nothing else but empty talk for their whole political career on the sidelines where they belong.

The genuine problem of poverty in New Orleans cannot be serviced by hate and is not caused by repairs and replacements to the housing of the poor, the expense of which is in part borne by the taxpayers.
