...and I'll cast a third so the notion carries. Now, if we can avoid tarring the folks with something valid to say....

Of course some believe that, some Canadians believe Rick Mercer's "Talking to Americans" is documentary evidence of American stupidity.
Great, now that we know Canadians are like Americans I guess we'll have to start invading everybody now.
I don't get what that to do with the overall gist of my post.

I was clear enough, you don't have to respond if you don't "get it".
I'm hoping it wasn't clear. Because it simply sounded like more griping, country vs. country. It seems an odd way to reply to a post about how ridiculous it is for the two countries to keep picking at one another.
Karrie,
You said that some Americans feel Canadians can only be patriotic if they hate America. And I agree.
It is as silly as those in Canada that take "Talking to Americans" as evidence of American stupidity.
They're both a silly concept.
He's just trying to get yer goat. I swear, one of these days I'm going to go down there and get his. Then I'll eat it.
Thanks Cos... It was soooo temptingOr offer it to Doc and Durka for their business venture!
I find the whole Canadian/American thing kinda weird. I spent time travelling in the States (on my Harley where they had much more sensible helmet laws than here, I might add!) and found that other than a bit of different slang, folks were pretty much the same all over both countries.
If you treat people with respect, they respond in kind -- generally. If they are rude or obnoxious, it's not about their country of origin as much as their personality. I found Americans to be friendly and welcoming. And remember ... there was a bunch of us dressed in black leather on large, loud motorcycles, pulling up to campsites, restaurants, etc. If anyone were a target for animosity, it would have been us, yet we found that as long as our overtures were polite and friendly we received the same in return.
I think our two countries are just too closely related to really make that much difference. The discussion is rooted in ego and politics rather than in culture. It amounts to kindergarten level hair pulling rather than any kind of valid discourse, imho.
I like having the Americans here at CC. They provide us with a personal insight into the politics and issues that we cannot garner from TV or books. I may not always agree with them, but I always like to hear opinions that are not sent through the spin cycle first.
Thanks Cos... It was soooo temptingYou can NOT imagine how that line-up of a thousand shaking goats from last night wanted to come out and play today....
