You really shouldn't take what I am saying about Bono so personally...
I'm not the one complaining about being lectured to.
you DID read the article, no?

This is the problem I have with opponents of aiding Africans. Even the poorest person in Canada is rich in comparison to those living in some of those third world nations. How rich do we have to be before we have enough for ourselves to share with the poorest people in the world?
I can see how that would be better if you're looking for an excuse for Canada's not meeting its commitments but I don't buy it.
...It was once reported that Geldof had used all his money to promote Live Aid. It seems his personal fortune is around fifty million pounds so he has somehow recovered...
Who made these commitments on our behalf? I think Paul Martin should pony up.
Nobody is stopping you. Call Sally Struthers. Operators are standing by.
Good point.Great, so each PM can just say "Well, that was the last guy. Canada doesn't keep commitments made by previous PMs". Their word becomes meaningless.
Are you talking about going splits on the love-a-sister one, or just what the money would buy in general?

Maybe this would go more smoothly if the we let the military run the show. That way the warmongers will rush to its defense. Its worked for Afghanistan.
Unfortunately when the warmongers went to Somalia they found that the old saying nature hates a vacuum applies to corrupt warlords and failed countries. That they got their butts kicked out of the country by those very people they were there to intimidate speaks volumes.
Not that there was a reduction in arms sales, or that there was talk on the effectiveness of choosing missions based upon photo ops.
Maybe once 20 or so Africans train in Nigeria to enact terrorism in America, someone will get it into their heads that turning away from the problem didn't solve anything.
Honestly if Bob Geldof were to tell you about some 8 year old girls being gang rapped but thugs around the corner in an alley, would you be so upset that Bob Geldof gets his picture in the paper for raising the alarm or would you just go do something about it?
do the words "better yet" ring a bell?
Either way, it doesn't really matter. They are grateful for one time gifts in any amount and happy to let people do the love a sister thing if they have $450 all at once.
