I don't know, I could be wrong but to me this is smacking of separation between church and state. What other reason could one have for thinking it's immoral? Teachers can't posit their religious moral view to students because they represent the state while they are working.

Maybe the separation is only valid as far as making laws, we know the American President has made many references to God. Just seems weird that a teacher can't expose their views and top ranking leaders can.

THANK YOU!

The policy of the US Military is dont ask dont tell........there is NO moral conotation put to that......period. This is a General who was stating HIS opinion on military policy........THATS a nono.........why isnt he up on charges?

No, thats just a policy to protect serving homosexuals. It is still conduct unbecoming. Official policy is and always has been that it is immoral. You also are not required to answer questions on adultery, but if you are found engaged in such an act, you will be charged with conduct unbecoming.

Yeah, I feel the same, he can have his personal opinion, as we all have, but he should keep it to
himself, especially in his line of work. I do agree with, the "don't ask, don't tell" rule, as I think
it's too sensitive to "open" up within the military. I can just imagine some of the stories, they
could tell, of their experiences, as gay persons, in the military.
So then, if he isn't allowed an opinion, in his position, I wonder will happen to him as a result of
his statement.

Ive had friends brutally beat because they were found out to be gay in the military.....even the gay fraction feel the the dont ask dont tell rule really is the best way to handle it.

That's baloney. If there was no moral judgement, then why would they still bar them from serving openly? The commander in chief believes it too, as does much of the general population. It's the reason gay people in the US don't have the same rights as straight people. Clinton did what was practical with don't ask don't tell, not what was right or fair.

The general's view is stupid IMO, but it is consistent with military policy. I don't have any links to sources that say expressing those views is a crime. If you can get away with asking for the resignation of the secretary of defense, I don't see how this would be punishable with legal charges.

Then me and several other friends stand corrected. I still stand behind my opinion that man has no right to state his moral opinion on national TV!

Morals are like squirrels. Say nuts and they're there. Who needs 'em? They're restrictions on freedom. No moral man is free.

certainly it was very unprofessional of him to give his personal views like that. it's questionable whether he should be punished by law. I'd leave it to the lawyers

There ARE restrictions when you put that uniform on yes.......you knew it when you signed up.......your drill seargents told you over and over again you have NO opinions. You are a piece of meat owned by the US government. They will feed you your opinion on a need to know basis.

It seems to me, that "don't ask, don't tell" protects gay people, period. The military has to run smoothly and efficiently, without inner "problems", and I would think the "extreme aggressive males,"
would make the gay people "suffer", from cruel treatment toward them. The military doesn't need
that. It doesn't matter if any of us approve/dissaprove of the military and their actions in the world,
they still have to run their business in a successful manner.

The general's view is stupid IMO,

It is his "personal" opinion, he shouldn't have stated it, with his uniform on, and in a public setting.
I respect his right to have "any" opinion he wants, he "just" stated it in the wrong place.

How did the dog get so big and bushy a tail? Gays make up, according to whom you reference- 3 to 6 % of the pop - and here they are again attempting to set key public policy. Tail wags the dog. Ad infinitum.

Your numbers do not reflect what I know about the condition especially as concerns poultry, a common figure for the thrid sex is ten to twelve percent depending on variables temp, hum, etc and population density. Stress factors as well.

And that's why I would not make a very good soldier...:)

Anyway, in terms of opinions...I mean, the guy makes a living out of organizing war and death and destruction. Personally, I don't feel that his moral judgement is something that can be overly trusted...:)

I agree, but official US military policy IS what he stated.

The problem is official policy is one of those things people don't like to hear. They also don't like to hear how women aren't allowed equality in the US army.

Its not that he's wrong to state the policy, its wrong that it IS the policy in the first place.

going insane... their is no separation of church and state anywhere in the USA constitution.

This is a myth and lie. The constitution garuntees freedom of religion and freedom of speach, NOWHERE does it say the church and state are separated.

People need to reconize it and:

accept that their is no separation of church and state in our constitution and be ok with that
"......................................................................................................." and fight to get that changed

Now, the military does not allow gays to serve. FYI, people disgaree with this but it DOES fit the tone of the USA society... over & over & OVER, states have voted down Same-Sex-Marriage Props. America is still 85% Christian, and they are still predomantly for gays to live their lives, but against gays getting everything.

Gays also alienate themselves with the black population by comparing their plight to the black's plight for rights.

So if the military doesn't let gays serve, how is he going against the military's opinions....

I am all for people, of whatever type of life, to live their lives freely, but no more.

What is happening hear and all over Canada & America, they are taking away my freedom of religion slowly but surely, because we are against abortion, and think homosexual sex is sinful, our freedom of religion is getting threatned by this.

I would not be surprised if priests got charged for "hate speach" for making sermons on certain issues.

Um....dude....imagine...wow...people fighting for their rights...what HORRIBLE people they are. And...they compare to the plight of blacks and other minorities because it is very much the same issue...acceptance for who you are. Who died in the gas chambers with the jewish? Gays.

Just because states are voting down gay marriage, or this or that or whatever crap does not make it RIGHT or ACCEPTABLE. After all, most of germany seemed all gung ho about hitlers ideas! Look how great that all went!

And...what was your comment on gays in the military? They wouldn't be able to concentrate around all those sweaty guys? What the frick is that??? You don't think a gay man can be professional, can divide personal and working time? You think that because someone is gay they are horny all the time? So, you wouldn't be able to work next to women without the threat of you jumping on them because they get you so hot?? Come on...your logic is seriously flawed here dude.

OH GIVE ME A BREAK! These people are trying to gain dignity, respect and rights! Your losing ****. Noone is telling you what to think. You can think whatever you want. But if you want to perpetuate hate, guess what, your going to get a backlash. If your going to tell women what to do with their bodies...guess what, your going to get a backlash. If your priest is gay bashing then, yes, he should be subject to the laws of the land. Whatever dude...just because you want to belong to a religion that tries to oppress people and calls people sinners and evil just for being who they are doesn't mean the rest of the planet has to accept that crap.
