How can we get rid of our sinfulness?

Silly? At first it may seem silly, brother, but serious when you think about God's works.

To the serious student of the word, all theses things are not silly: silly only to those who take Gods mysteries not serious.

Peace>>>AJ:love9:

Please do not assume that I do not take the mystery of God seriously because I don't pour over the Scriptures seeking hidden messages! It is enough to serve God and those he puts in our path without making up mumbo-jumbo about secret numerical codes in the Bible.

By the way AJ, been meaning to share this for a bit. Your blurb in your signature has a spelling error"

It now reads:
The hand of God reaches down to us and takes us as we are.
Notice: who's holding who, on my avatar?
He has given notice: Your are loved!

It should read:

Notice who is holding whom...

YOU are loved!

To this date, not one biblical event has been proven wrong, ...
Um.... no. Since such a sweeping generalization requires only one counter-example to prove it's wrong: there never was a global flood. Such a recent catastrophe would have left clear evidence on the landscape and it would be accepted as an established fact by the scientific community. There is none, and it's not.

Ok, I should have written, not one that has been tested for, or looked for:angel8:

Now I know someone has read it!

But thank you, Sanctus.

Sort of, it was already the smallest seed. Jesus used it as an example, that if a man could have as much faith as even a mustard seed, he could do big things in his life.

But it isn't the smallest seed, not even close.

I know, but frankly I think it is just silly. Yes, in some cases numbers have significance. For example, the choosing of 12 Apostles to represent the twelve tribes is a long known metaphor/symbolism.

But this ideology that secret codes exist in the Bible is, frankly and as I have already stated, just silly.
Yup, my point, too. That's why I threw in another silly -ology; phrenology (the study of the bumps on heads). :D

Pointless only to those who have rejected the point:)
I was just agreeing with Look.
Anyway, I got the point of the bible long ago, but the idea that I was calling pointless is the beliefs in the existences of gods n other such superstitions. Like I said before, these fantasies aren't necessary because people can lead virtuous lives without them. And living life is the whole point behind life. Otherwise life is irrelevant to the universe and the rest of its contents.

Ah, but that one has been tested for and looked for. Not recently, but the science of geology early in its history witnessed a major debate between the so-called catastrophists led by Georges Cuvier and the uniformitarians led by James Hutton in the 18th century. That was a time when the general opinion, with all the weight of the theologians behind it, was that the earth was only a few thousand years old. (There are still some ignorant idiots who think so.) It was pretty much put to rest by Charles Lyell in 1833 with a book called Principles of Geology, the first text book in the field and still a useful reference. It was Lyell who led the attack on theological prejudices about the age of the earth and and rejected attempts to interpret geology in terms of scripture.

And while we're on the subject--not that it has much to do with getting rid of our sinfulness ;-), but there have been enough diversions and digressions in this thread that I don't feel bad about adding another one--the sun didn't stand still over Jericho for Joshua so he could finish slaughtering everybody before sundown, nor did the sun move backwards 10 degrees as Isaiah records. The sudden cessation or reversal of the earth's rotation would have left even more dramatic marks on the landscape than a global flood. The angular momentum has to go somewhere; I haven't done the calculation, but I suspect it'd release enough energy to melt the entire planetary surface into slag. There are those who would try to claim that god must have drained off the energy via some mysterious process available only to him, then pumped it back in to get things going again. But I don't think you're one of those.

.......... Pliny noted in a letter to Emperor Trajan that true Christians could not be made to renounce their faith in Jesus Christ as God, even under "extreme torture."
Thanks for that, Sanc. There was a few things in there I wasn't aware of. But, the archeological evidence I wasn't looking for was so-and-so's testimonial about your Christ, but actual archeological evidence of the guy himself. As I keep mentioning, there's actual evidence (possessions, bones, etc) of people going back a lot longer than Yeshua was supposed to be around, but someone as well-known like he was supposed to have been left nothing. No-one has come up with his hairbrush, shaver, toenail clipper, tv, diary/journal, ipod, or anything. One would have thought his burial cave would have been mapped by a couple hundred people and in which case, we would have found his bones and whatever else was left of the earthly existence.
So without something other than hearsay, the fella's existence is no more real than Paul Bunyan's (lotta people talked about him, too).

It does at first seem silly, but if you know anything about statistics and probability, which I do, it looks even sillier. There are no secret codes in the Bible, look. The technique that Michael Drosnin describes in his book The Bible Code will produce the same results with any sufficiently long piece of text. It's been tried with Moby Dick and War and Peace, and Drosnin's own books, with the same result. Notice, however, that the technique never predicts anything, significant groupings of words that can be taken as predictions are found only after the event has happened. Any fool can predict the past.

That's not what I said, so quit putting your words in my mouth. A couple posts back I explained what is the point.

What a "sad sad" thing to say, that life is pointless without god, that's like saying life is pointless
without the easter bunny, or santa clause, if we get too attached to "fantasies" it starts to look kind
of "funneeeeee".!!!!
I can think of so so many wonderful things to live for, but can't think of anything that makes life
"pointless", "just to be alive" is wonderful.

The discussion on this thread as you say has moved around quite a bit from the main topic.
But, I look at it from the standpoint of the leadings of the Holy Spirit who places thoughts and ideas in our minds.
Those thoughts and ideas are acted out by us for the sole purpose of discussion.
These discussions help many who are interested in all the different views and for some, it helps them decide which way to look at things.

Now as for your observations on the tilt of the earth, in my book makes no difference whether it is real or not, because I look at the message behind the story to extract the intended spiritual message.

What is the spiritual message? I'm glad you asked.

What I am about to explain will not make any sense to the lot of you as it is understood only in light of the bible as a whole.

Consistent with many of the stories in the bible, this one is no different in that it is a “picture” of what God, Jesus and the Jewish nation were involved in.

Jos 10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

The Sun represents the Father, moon the son (Express image of the Father) and the people the enemies of the cross.

The sun stood still (The Father watched) and Jesus stayed (Stayed the course, did not waver) until the enemies The Jewish High priest and the Roman soldiers took it all out on Jesus. (The wrath of mankind) Avenged them selves! Nailed Him to the cross.

Jesus would not have it completed until every dot-and-tittle be fulfilled for the salvation of ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL mankind.

That day could not be fulfilled until all was accomplished, before sundown, the eve of the Sabbath.

I don’t expect any of you to understand what I said, but at least you will have said to someone later on, that you heard it first here on this forum.

Hog wash? Mumble Jumbo? Fairy tale, fantasy, or just plain silly, so be it.

Those who would wonder at it, may wonder how wonderful God is to reveal this truth not seen before, simply because it has to be spiritually discerned.

Read http://www.skepdic.com/bibcode.html

The bible code of which I speak is not in the same context as that of the bible code mania.

For example: the four beasts in the book of Revelation with six wings?

A beast we know is an animal, a lamb a goat etc.
Jesus is called “the lamb of God” not that He is a lamb, but as like a lamb for the sacrifice.
So the beasts are a code describing the day divided up into 4 quarters, each 6 hours.
The beasts also represent in some cases kingdoms on the earth. In the case of the number 4: meaning that all four corners of the earth are covered in the salvation plan of God.

One day Jesus re-creates the New Heavens and the New Earth. A 24 hour day is where all of it takes place.
The old heavens and the old earth are passed away and the new one is ushered in.

Again, you all will not see it, unless you have a good knowledge of the bible as in knowing it from cover to cover and the revelations from the Holy Spirit who teaches all we need to know.
