After arriving in a pickup truck and armed with a shotgun just after 7 p.m., Ward opened fire at Smith, who was parked in an unmarked police vehicle, according to Denette, based on preliminary evidence. Smith returned fire and was joined by another responding officer who also returned fire.
Is Smith a Jew?

Goldsmith? Goldstein? Hell if I know? You’re asking about the undercover cop in the unmarked car assigned to protect the synagogue? So dude with a shotgun arrives outside of the equivalent of a church, and the undercover cop in the unmarked car confronts him, does it matter if the cop is Jewish? Buddy (Ward) with the shotgun, rolling up outside of the synagogue in Belleview, probably wasn’t duck hunting.

"You are going to die for the Jews," Sean Ward says on the video as he began his attack. About two dozen congregants had gathered inside the building for services on the holy day. Bullets pierced the stained-glass windows, and worshippers dropped to the floor and took cover. No one inside the synagogue (or any ducks) were injured, though a police officer stationed outside was seriously wounded in the shootout.
He had a shotgun, a stockpile of ammunition and gasoline — enough, police say, to kill dozens of worshippers at a Belleville synagogue. Instead, a wounded officer stopped him, refusing to back down even after being shot multiple times.

The ambush at the Sons of Jacob Synagogue during Yom Kippur last weekend injured Const. Jeff Smith who was stationed outside, Belleville Police Chief Murray Rodd told reporters Thursday. "Based on the evidence we've reviewed … (investigators) can confirm this was a hate-motivated crime," Rodd said.

Smith, the probably not Jewish police officer, was in "critical-stable" condition Monday. Two days later, his probably not Jewish wife, Ashley Smith, said in a post on social media that her husband "has a very long, difficult road ahead" but is "fighting."

I'm just curious how it became an attack on Jews

Really? The dude (Ward) with the shotgun and lots of ammo and the cans of gasoline that rolled up in front of that synagogue during some religious Jewish holiday, who was confronted by the undercover cop (Smith) in his unmarked car at that Jewish synagogue before he could enter (with his shotgun), and before the firefight with that police officer…stated…
"You are going to die for the Jews," Sean Ward says on the video as he began his attack.
I can see your confusion here. What do you think buddy’s (Ward’s) intentions where with that loaded shotgun, lots of ammo, and cans of gasoline, in the middle of a city, where when he rolled up on that synagogue during some kind of religious ceremony on some type of religious holiday where he knew that facility would be occupied by…probably by Shriners Botswanians Jews?… before he was confronted by the undercover cop in the unmarked police vehicle?
He had a shotgun, a stockpile of ammunition and gasoline — enough, police say, to kill dozens of worshippers at a Belleville synagogue. Instead, a wounded officer stopped him, refusing to back down even after being shot multiple times.
What do you figure that he (Ward) meant when he stated (apparently caught on video) to the undercover cop (Smith) assigned to protect (in his unmarked police vehicle) the worshippers in that synagogue, before the firefight?:
"You are going to die for the Jews,"
I mean, I guess he could’ve meant pretty much anything, and the fact that this occurred out on the street in front of a synagogue during some kind of religious ceremony, and he just happened to have a shotgun and a bunch of ammo and a bunch of cans of gasoline in his vehicle…& then got into a fire fight with the police who tried to prevent him from entering the synagogue, it could all be just a coincidence, right?

Apparently, Ward passed the synagogue once to scout the area before returning on a second pass to ambush Constable Jeff Smith, who was specifically stationed to protect the congregation during Yom Kippur services, but maybe he (Ward) was just looking for a good place to park?

(Apparently, Belleville Police Chief Murray Rodd said Thursday Smith (the undercover cop) noticed the shooter pass by earlier in the day but was not alarmed, and that that Smith was shot for the first time before he even exited his vehicle to engage after Ward’s second lap around the block that synagogue was located on)

Apparently, after being shot, Smith managed to hold off Ward from entering that synagogue for another three minutes until backup arrived. I guess that backup should have then quizzed Ward further with respect to his intentions, just in case this was part of a misunderstanding of some type? Is that where you’re going with this?

Trudeau hasn't issued any special decrees to deal with the string of church fires since 2021 because ya know, setting churches on fire is "understandable".
Parishioners of Meadow Lake’s All Saints Orthodox Church are mourning the loss of their spiritual home after a fire destroyed the building Wednesday which was September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.
