American forces were originally place in Germany and other European countries to protect Western Europe from Russian dominance. It seems Germany, or at least their leadership are not worried about being overrun by Russian tanks. Most of them don't even care that Ukraine is in danger of becoming a Russian serfdom again. Their only concern about US troops leaving is the big hole in their economy the loss of US money will cause.
Seems that way to me .

…& do they remain in Germany strictly because of Russia (?) or for other logistical and geographical reasons?

It's a hell of a lot easier to supply the Middle East from Ramstein AB and Rhein-Main AB (both near Frankfurt) than from Dover AFB (Delaware), Charleston AFB (South Carolina), and McGuire AFB (New Jersey).

Analysts and congressional aides said they expect Trump to either ‌notify Congress that he plans a 30-day extension or disregard the deadline, with his administration arguing that a current ceasefire with Tehran marked an end to the conflict in order to bypass Congress again.
(YouTube & Trump declares Iran hostilities "terminated" as US blockade of strait remains😲)
Iran has called the US interception of ships entering and leaving Iranian ports under the blockade "piracy".
Well, at least they agree on something. Iran has also severely limited traffic through the strait since the war began in February. The US has also enforced a naval blockade on Iranian ports.

Depending on who you ask, and when, America’s war against Iran is simultaneously ongoing and doesn’t exist; it began 60 days ago but also 40 years ago. The war ended in early April, but their “warfighters” still need unconditional support to achieve victory.

“If you see CNN, you think they [Iran] are winning the war,” Trump complained in the Oval Office on Thursday. “If you read The New York Times, it’s actually seditious, in my opinion. You read The New York Times, you actually think they’re winning the war. I read some of these columnists, but it all starts with the top. It’s a terrible thing.”

If the war is over, then nobody is winning or losing ‘cuz…it’s over?🤔

Huh…& I thought the American bases in Germany were all clustered in South Germany to keep the notorious Swiss and Austrian’s in line.😳. This’ll learn the Germans (or someone?) that logistical supply chains to the Middle East are not the priority over Trumps ego while America is (or isn’t?) in a war military action blockade combat excursion military operation disagreement (?) with Iran.

Old USAF saying. . . armchair generals talk tactics, politicians talk strategy.

Professionals talk logistics.

There's a reason they put a career supply officer in charge of the European Theater in WWII. Turns out that beans and BVDs are every bit as important to the war effort as bullets and bombs.

Beans and BVDs made "Uncle" Sam Adams a fortune.

…that the U.S. considered the war with Iran "terminated" due to a ceasefire (A ceasefire does not mean the war is over. It is a temporary pause in fighting, not a permanent end to the conflict) that began on April 7, 2026, though a naval blockade and tensions remained.

Despite claiming the war "terminated," the administration warned that renewed military action against Iran “remained possible” if Iran "misbehaves".

Terminated means the end of a relationship, project, or process. It is generally final, permanent, and implies that the action will not resume, where as Paused means a temporary interruption. It implies an intention to resume or continue at a later time, so is the war (which may or may not be a war) “Terminated” or “Paused”???

It’s over right? The U.S. legal position argued that the conflict was part of an ongoing, long-term war, rather than a new war starting in 2026, citing previous incidents over several decades, such as the 1979 hostage crisis and the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing.

President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he was reviewing a new Iranian proposal to end the war (that is both over, and not over) but also expressed doubt it would lead to a deal…since both sides have already won…decisively.

Iran’s 14-point proposal calls for an end to the war🤔, rather than just an extension of the truce. The proposal, a rebuttal to the U.S. nine-point plan, also calls for the U.S. lifting sanctions on Iran, ending the naval blockade, withdrawing forces from the region, and ceasing all hostilities, including Israel’s operations in Lebanon, according to the semiofficial Nour News agency, which has close ties to the country’s security organizations.

Iran's demands for the U.S. to remove "all forces from the region" generally encompass a complete withdrawal of both naval assets (like carrier strike groups) and personnel from military bases in surrounding countries.

The U.S. president also offered a new plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, and Iran stands firm on Strait of Hormuz issues, so…yeah. Iran’s deputy parliament speaker (Ali Nikzad) said on Sunday that Iran “will not back down from our position on the Strait of Hormuz, and it will not return to its prewar conditions.” Nikzad reiterated Iran’s position that any ships not associated with the U.S. or Israel will be able to pass after paying a toll.

The U.S. has warned shipping companies they could face sanctions for paying Iran in any form, including digital assets, to pass safely. Damned if ya do, & damned if ya don’t.
An Iranian proposal so far rejected by U.S. President Donald Trump would open shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and end the U.S. blockade of Iran while leaving talks on Iran's nuclear programme for later, a senior Iranian official said on Saturday.

Trump said on Friday he was "not satisfied" with Iran's latest proposal, without spelling out in detail which elements he opposes. "They're asking for things that I can't agree to," he told reporters at the White House, and Iran says, “Ditto!” in Farsi.

So…would this be a ‘new’ war (?) or a continuation of the war that started 02/28/2026 or in 1979 or would this be a separate yet distinct chapter in the war (that may or not be a war) as far as Congressional approval goes?
