American forces were originally place in Germany and other European countries to protect Western Europe from Russian dominance. It seems Germany, or at least their leadership are not worried about being overrun by Russian tanks. Most of them don't even care that Ukraine is in danger of becoming a Russian serfdom again. Their only concern about US troops leaving is the big hole in their economy the loss of US money will cause.
Seems that way to me .

…& do they remain in Germany strictly because of Russia (?) or for other logistical and geographical reasons?

Analysts and congressional aides said they expect Trump to either ‌notify Congress that he plans a 30-day extension or disregard the deadline, with his administration arguing that a current ceasefire with Tehran marked an end to the conflict in order to bypass Congress again.
(YouTube & Trump declares Iran hostilities "terminated" as US blockade of strait remains😲)
Iran has called the US interception of ships entering and leaving Iranian ports under the blockade "piracy".
Well, at least they agree on something. Iran has also severely limited traffic through the strait since the war began in February. The US has also enforced a naval blockade on Iranian ports.

Depending on who you ask, and when, America’s war against Iran is simultaneously ongoing and doesn’t exist; it began 60 days ago but also 40 years ago. The war ended in early April, but their “warfighters” still need unconditional support to achieve victory.

“If you see CNN, you think they [Iran] are winning the war,” Trump complained in the Oval Office on Thursday. “If you read The New York Times, it’s actually seditious, in my opinion. You read The New York Times, you actually think they’re winning the war. I read some of these columnists, but it all starts with the top. It’s a terrible thing.”

If the war is over, then nobody is winning or losing ‘cuz…it’s over?🤔
It's a hell of a lot easier to supply the Middle East from Ramstein AB and Rhein-Main AB (both near Frankfurt) than from Dover AFB (Delaware), Charleston AFB (South Carolina), and McGuire AFB (New Jersey).
Huh…& I thought the American bases in Germany were all clustered in South Germany to keep the notorious Swiss and Austrian’s in line.😳. This’ll learn the Germans (or someone?) that logistical supply chains to the Middle East are not the priority over Trumps ego while America is (or isn’t?) in a war military action blockade combat excursion military operation disagreement (?) with Iran.

Old USAF saying. . . armchair generals talk tactics, politicians talk strategy.

Professionals talk logistics.

There's a reason they put a career supply officer in charge of the European Theater in WWII. Turns out that beans and BVDs are every bit as important to the war effort as bullets and bombs.

Beans and BVDs made "Uncle" Sam Adams a fortune.
