Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer is leaving the Trump administration.

Chavez-DeRemer is moving onto a position in the private sector, White House communications director Steven Cheung said on Monday, while Deputy Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling will take on the role of acting secretary.

“She has done a phenomenal job in her role by protecting American workers, enacting fair labor practices, and helping Americans gain additional skills to improve their lives,” Cheung posted on X.

Chavez-DeRemer, 58, is the third cabinet official to depart in recent weeks, following Attorney General Pam Bondi, who was fired earlier this month, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who was replaced in March.

She also happens to be the fifth staffer in the Department of Labor to be investigated and resign following an extensive inquiry by the Office of Inspector General, the New York Times reported.

In Chavez-DeRemer’s case, the watchdog had been looking at text messages sent by the ex-labour minister, her top aides and family members to young staffers.

A complaint filed against Chavez-DeRemer in January alleged that she drank in the office during work hours, pursued an affair with security guard Brian Sloan, and she and her aides — chief of staff Jihun Han and deputy Rebecca Wright — created a hostile work environment, according to the outlet.

The complaint also accused Chavez-DeRemer, Han and Wright of committing “travel fraud” by billing taxpayers for supposed official trips to destinations where the labour minister could spend time with family or friends.

Her husband, Dr. Shawn DeRemer, was barred from the department’s D.C. headquarters after two women who work there reported that he had touched them inappropriately, sources told CBS News earlier this year. The Portland, Ore.-based anesthesiologist was cleared of the federal charges.

Other texts showed the secretary’s father, Richard Chavez, asking a young female staffer to keep a conversation “private” after saying he “could made some excuses to get out an show u around,” according to the Times.

Chavez-DeRemer, Han, Wright and Sloan were placed on leave for a duration of the investigation, with the aides being accused of exerting improper influence over junior staff and verbally abusing some — as well as providing “cover” for the secretary’s alleged misconduct, sources said told the outlet.

Han and Wright resigned on March 3, the bodyguard, Brian Sloan, resigned on March 19, and a fourth aide, Melissa Robey, left the department on March 25.

Following Monday’s announcement, Chavez-DeRemer wrote on X that she was honoured to “have served under the most pro-worker president in U.S. history.”

She also maintained her innocence following the probe.

“The allegations against me, my family, and my team have been peddled by high-ranked deep state actors who have been coordinating with the one-sided news media and continue to undermine President Trump’s mission.”

She added: “I look forward to continuing to fight the good fight from the outside and always advocating for the American worker.”

Trump and Hegseth have been vocal in their insistence that so-called woke policies are dead. There has been a vigorous campaign to remove leaders who promoted diversity, equity and inclusion, and to erase DEI programs and online content.
President Donald Trump's administration has terminated the entire National Science Board of more than 20 members, two fired members of the board said on Monday.

The National Science Board is responsible for establishing the policies of the NSF (National Science Foundation) and advising the President and Congress on policy matters related to science and engineering. Members, who typically serve staggered six-year terms to maintain continuity, were terminated simultaneously via an email from the Presidential Personnel Office, who’s not concerned with continuity it would appear.
Since taking office in early 2025, Trump has put pressure on independent institutions. Political experts say his administration is attempting to remake those bodies by installing loyalists in leadership positions and by removing independent and critical voices. “Seeing similar actions by the Administration across the federal government and especially with regards to scientific research, it seemed only a matter of time," Stassun, who works at Vanderbilt University, said.

A White House official said authorities given to the board by Congress when the board was created (in 1950) may need updating. The National Science Foundation's work "continues uninterrupted," the official said? The administration appears to be pivoting toward direct management of science funding, and the dismissals are interpreted as a step to replace independent experts with figures aligned with the administration's goals.
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that Jimmy Kimmel should immediately be fired by ABC and parent company Walt Disney (DIS.N), joining his wife Melania Trump in calling out the late-night talk show host for a monologue he delivered prior to ‌a shooting near a gathering of journalists and politicians over the weekend.

Kimmel said last Thursday, in a parody segment on the upcoming White House correspondents' dinner, that Melania Trump "had a glow like an expectant widow."

Trump has repeatedly urged broadcasters to remove comedy or news programs he dislikes or that have been critical of him and pressed regulators to take action to revoke licenses of broadcasters he says are unfair to him. Broadcasters have broad First Amendment rights to make jokes - even ones that are distasteful, experts note, but that’s a different story I guess.

Tucker Carlson’s son quits JD Vance’s press team amid feud between his dad and Trump
The timing is convenient given Trump has continued to publicly slam Tucker, as the former Fox News personality criticizes the president and his administration

Tucker Carlson’s son is no longer part of U.S Vice President JD Vance’s press team amid President Donald Trump’s ongoing attacks against his conservative pundit father.

Buckley Carlson, a 20-something who had served as Vance’s deputy press secretary since the start of the Trump administration’s second term, is embarking on his own political consulting firm, Politico reported.

A Vance official told the outlet that Buckley — who previously worked for then-Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), in 2019 as his deputy chief of staff — shared his plans to exit the role late last year.

“Buckley first informed the VP’s office of his intention to depart in December,” the official told Politico, but wanted to stay longer “to ensure a smooth transition.”

However, the timing is convenient given Trump has continued to publicly slam Tucker, as the former Fox News personality criticizes the president and his administration, notably amid the ongoing war in Iran.

Tucker vs. Trump
In late February, Tucker discouraged Trump from attacking Iran ahead of the war, even meeting with the president in the Oval Office multiple times to try to dissuade him.

Tucker also slammed Trump for his threatening, profanity-laced Truth Social message to Iran on Easter morning.

“How dare you speak that way on Easter morning to the country? Who do you think you are? You’re tweeting out the f-word on Easter morning,” Tucker said on the April 6 episode of his podcast.

Tucker also condemned the president for his “Praise be to Allah” signoff, which he said was “mocking the religion of Iran.”

“OK. If you seek a religious war, that’s a good idea. But by the way, no decent person mocks other people’s religions,” Tucker noted.

Tucker also had a field day with Trump’s AI-generated posts, particularly the image which appeared to depict the president as Jesus Christ (though Trump deleted that post, telling reporters he thought he was portraying himself “as a doctor.”)

“It’s mockery,” Tucker said of the president’s posts. “He’s mocking Jesus. He’s making fun of Christianity.”

‘Low IQ’ insults
Naturally, Trump didn’t take too kindly to the public callouts.

He wrote in a Truth Social post on Friday: “Tucker is a Low IQ person. Always easy to beat, and highly overrated!!!”

The insult is one he’s trotted out before, previously dishing it out to anyone who opposes him, including political foes Gavin Newsom, Jasmine Crockett and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Earlier in the month, Trump likened the journalist to other critics, including Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens and Alex Jones, accusing them all of having one thing in common: “Low IQs.”

“They’re stupid people, they know it, their families know it, and everyone else knows it, too! Look at their past, look at their record. They don’t have what it takes, and they never did!” he ranted on an April 9 Truth Social post.

“They’ve all been thrown off Television, lost their Shows, and aren’t even invited on TV because nobody cares about them, they’re NUT JOBS, TROUBLEMAKERS, and will say anything necessary for some ‘free’ and cheap publicity,” he continued.

He singled out Tucker, writing that he “couldn’t even finish College, he was a broken man when he got fired from Fox, and he’s never been the same,” and also suggested he “should see a good psychiatrist!”

Trump continued: “These so-called ‘pundits’ are LOSERS, and they always will be! … “They’re not ‘MAGA,’ they’re losers, just trying to latch on to MAGA.”

He added: “MAGA is about MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and these people have no idea how to do that, BUT I DO, because THE UNITED STATES IS NOW THE “HOTTEST” COUNTRY ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD!”

Tucker responded to Trump’s social media tirade, saying he was “horrified” by the president’s declaration that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran didn’t cut a deal.

“I’ve always liked Trump and still feel sorry for him, as I do for all slaves,” Tucker told Newsmax.

“He’s hemmed in by other forces. He can’t make his own decisions,” Tucker elaborated. “It’s awful to watch.”

Carlson is an antisemitic or something....right?

Too bad that hex no longer has power.
