As MacKinnon faced reporters on the steps of Rideau Hall Friday morning, his welcome was a flurry of questions about the calls for change from several Liberals and what, if anything, Trudeau’s office should do about it.
His answers seemed to indicate that he thinks the government should change nothing.
“We are resolved to continue the work and continue on the path that we have set for Canadians,” he said?? Oh goody…
I’m sure this has absolutely nothing to do with the Liberals potentially being decimated in Atlantic Canada, potentially having a hope of holding some seats in Quebec, but that’s a different story…

CAMBRIDGE, Ont. — Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a man they allege threatened Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau while on the campaign trail in southern Ontario.

Police say the allegations stem from a campaign stop in Cambridge, Ont. on Aug. 29.
It was one of many events in Ontario at which Trudeau was dogged by protesters, people sounded sirens and chanted expletives amid a visible police presence.
Police say they launched an investigation after viewing video of the event, speaking to witnesses and receiving information from the RCMP.
Police say they have arrested a 32-year-old man from Kitchener, Ont., and charged him with two counts of uttering threats. They did not release his name.
After a handful of gravel was thrown at Trudeau during a campaign stop in London, Ont., earlier this week, the People’s Party of Canada says it has removed its president of the Elgin-Middlesex-London riding association, and police there have said they are investigating.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police said on Monday they charged two Alberta men with uttering threats against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other Canadian political leaders.
Police said one person allegedly posted threats on May 10 on social media platform X to kill Trudeau and another posted threats on YouTube on June 7 to kill Trudeau, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland and New Democratic Party Leader Jagmeet Singh.
A 23-year-old Calgary man was charged with one count of uttering threats and a 67-year-old Edmonton man with three counts of uttering threats. Each is scheduled to appear in court this week.
"In the digital age, where so many interactions occur online and are perceived to be anonymous (Not in Canada Eh? Pity!), there is a belief that virtual actions and words do not have consequences," Inspector Matthew Johnson said in a statement.
"When these virtual actions or words cross the boundaries of Charter-protected speech and constitute criminal activity, police will “selectively, depending on the cause, racial/religious/nationality of the one making threats, whom they’re against, etc…” investigate thoroughly to hold those responsible accountable."

If Trudeau were to announce he was resigning as Liberal leader, given his current level of unpopularity with Canadians in general, it’s reasonable to assume that overall support for the Liberals would increase to some extent, that levels of support for the seven others named as potential successors would change and there is always the possibility of someone other than those named in the poll running.

Last week’s tiny cabinet change did nothing to appease those in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s caucus who think a broader shuffle of key government ministers would help save the Liberal party from electoral defeat.
Several MPs who spoke to the Star in recent days said they still want to see a cabinet shuffle before Parliament returns for the fall session. Some shared specific ideas for who should be moved, with four Liberal sources naming Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland. Some also welcomed the idea of former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney joining Trudeau’s team.
(Mark Carney isn’t an MP, doesn’t hold an elected office, and to the best of my knowledge is to member of the Liberal Party of Canada)
“Clearly, what’s happening is not working,” said one Liberal MP who, like the others quoted in this story, agreed to speak on condition of anonymity = a unofficially official announcement directly from the PMO.
“Freeland should definitely get moved,” the MP said, adding that “hopefully” Carney could be enticed to somehow join the team, possibly as finance minister.
Another MP said that’s the “obvious” role for Carney if he jumps into politics, since on financial matters — as a central banker in Canada and the United Kingdom, and now the United Nations' special envoy on climate action and finance — he is “light-years ahead of anybody, Freeland included.”…but can he hold a conversation with an average human being?
Beyond that, the MP added, “I certainly think there are cabinet ministers that could be replaced by others who could do better work.”
Freeland's office declined to comment, and a spokesperson for Trudeau referred to a previous statement expressing confidence in the finance minister, etc…
