Well first off, Vladivostok is Chinese territory. But secondly and most importantly, taking a piece of eastern Russia would give China access to the Arctic as an Arctic nation instead of a wannabe that's merely Arctic nation adjacent. China has openly stated that they have a claim to the Arctic but it's all bluster since they aren't an Arctic nation.
Wouldn't it be cool if we had our own airspace secure by own means and extra systems kicking around just in case?

Borrow? Why borrow? Our income just shot up by several billion a year from a single pipeline that will free up tens of thousands of rail cars to sell even more at higher rates than ever thanks to Ukraine bombing Russian oil infrastructure. We can afford $76M. It's a pittance of what we're gaining.

Taiwan isn't about value or resources. It's about Xi pretending that Taiwan ever belonged to China. It's about eliminating US naval dominance in the region. It's about controlling all the commercial shipping lanes that run through the Strait of Taiwan and the South China Sea.
