The question of "what's is a Women" has been recently questioned so why not flip it?

I know I'm a man evolutionary and instinctually but where do millions of year of that fit into who I am by today's standards? I'll tell ya. I'm the same man I was 100,000 years ago.

It's more than 100,000 years but WTF changed in the past 30 years?

How did my instincts become toxic?

Am I no longer the ever alert hunter who will risk life and limb to put food on my families table?

Do I not express the ultimate form of love by offering my life to protect my family, community and culture from aggression even if it means travelling thousands of KM to preemptively preserve?

I toil for my wife and child even though they have been quasi empowered to fend for themselves and they do yet I'm compelled to not stop providing no matter what and sacrificing my body and soul.

Why? To get fucked?

I don't think so, I think it's more about preserving the tribe/group/society/whatever. A group can lose a substantial fraction of its young men and survive, but you start losing significant numbers of the women and children and your group is likely to end up on history's scrap pile. Therefore evolution has provided males with very strong instincts to preserve and protect the women and children at almost any cost to themselves, Women and children in modern societies no longer really need that kind of protection, at least not compared to the Pleistocene conditions we evolved for, but that's not long enough ago for the instincts to have been bred out of men, and I think it leaves a lot of them feeling somewhat at loose ends. A major part of the role they evolved for has disappeared in some degree, as well as being condemned as outmoded, controlling, patronizing, and patriarchal, by contemporary feminism, so they're left feeling surplus to requirements.

I'd immediately agree that's a massive oversimplification, but I think the core idea is correct.

Though the protective instinct has to be stretched pretty far to cover modern soldiery.

I suspect the oppression of women has a less instinctual origin. I agree the protective part is there, but I also think that 7,000-10,000 years back, pastoralists saw the rams covering the ewes, saw the resulting lambs and their similarities to the rams, and it clicked. . . "My woman's child is MY child!" (The connection between sex and children is otherwise non-obvious, as it's certainly not a one-to-one correlation.) Continuing the line of thought. . . "The only way I can make sure my woman's child is REALLY my child is to isolate her from all other men!" And there you have it. . . confined in the home, limited to domestic drudgery, second-class (or lower) citizenship.

Men actually weren't kidding when they said "It's for your own protection." They just took it a bit far.

As you say, irrelevant now. With 8 billion people, we hardly need to protect/oppress/limit women to ensure the continuation of the species, or even the community.

We have evolved very very little since the Pleistocene.

I'm just wrapping up a project and I'll have some time on my hands. The first thing that comes to mind is "I gotta go ice fishing up north to take a break, stop in PA on the way home to pick up a side of bison from a buddy's farm and buy myself a shiny new barbeque.

Maybe a sweet one with a complex remote control so my oppressed woman doesn't cook 3 season of the year and can spend her time doing what she loves most, gardening.

Men still enjoy the instinct of hunting and fishing.

That is both somewhat true and somewhat not. The fact is on the flip side women still have their hardwired instincts as well. There is a very good reason why there are fewer women engineers, fewer women soldiers, fewer women firefighters. And this is more true in societies that actually do everything they can to give women choice,

Where men are hardwired to protect (as you stated), Go out and explore and invent (to increase resources for the family unit), build and create things (for the betterment of the family unit) , women are hardwired to nurture and care for people (for the children), and they avoid risk and strive for security (for the protection of the vunerable such as children etc).

They still need men very much - just as we need women. Not just for protection, but as far as that goes ask some ukrainian women how they feel about the need for the protection of men right now. Some women can and will fight - but predominantly that's going to be up to the men.

As to why this is all of a sudden toxic - the left wants to dismantle our culture and society and replace it with one that's better in their minds. The only way to do that is to tear down any of the institutions and traditions we have and make them seem evil. So - now all the male traits are evil, and we should abolish them. It's a pretty common theme - money is evil, being successful is evil, any historical figure is evil, hell the whole country was built on nothing but slavery so totally evil there.
