The King is believed to be planning on making his granddaughter Princess Charlotte the new Duchess of Edinburgh.
After King Charles III acceded to the Throne on 8th September 2022 it was believed he would make his younger brother Prince Edward the Duke of Edinburgh.
Instead, the King has bypassed Prince Edward and is now planning on making Princess Charlotte - the daughter of Prince William and Catherine, who is third in line to the Throne after her father Prince William and older brother Prince George - the new Princess of Edinburgh in honour of her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, who was the Duchess of Edinburgh, being married to Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Princess Charlotte is one higher in the Line of Succession than her younger brother Prince Louis, after Queen Elizabeth II changed the law so that males of any age take precedent over females in the Line of Succession.
When her father takes the Throne, Princess Charlotte may become the new Princess Royal.
