Perhaps in cases like this if the parole board had to serve the same sentence as the guy they release gets due to a re-offense, it may make them more strict in their release criteria. Not going to happen but nice idea to hold the board accountable. Maybe just lifetime removal from a parole board if you release a guy who re-offends is more realistic.

JAMES SMITH CREE NATION — A notice sent over Saskatchewan's emergency alert system says a report of a person armed with a knife driving in a stolen vehicle northeast of Saskatoon may be connected to a deadly stabbing rampage over the weekend.

The person is reported to have been travelling in a 2008 white Chevy Avalanche in the community of Wakaw, where the vehicle was reported stolen.

The notice says people should seek immediate shelter and use caution when allowing people into their homes.

They are also being told not approach suspicious people or pick up hitchhikers.

A suspect in the killings, Myles Sanderson, is still at large.

Ten people were killed and 18 were injured in a series of stabbings in various locations Sunday on the James Smith Cree Nation and nearby village of Weldon.

A second suspect was also found dead.

Myles Sanderson, 32, was located and taken into police custody near Rosthern at approximately 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. He is currently charged with three murders, an attempted murder and a break-and-enter, but RCMP previously indicated more charges would come as investigation continued into the 10 dead and 18 injured.
You mean. . . charges can be filed AFTER an investigation and arrest?

C'est incroyable!

So. . . the Mounties got their man?

How Canadian.
Actually they do have a stunningly good track record of finding the bad guy in cases like this. The incident in the atlantic provinces being the outlier. This isn't the first time a couple of nutbars have gone all homicidal and fled and could have been anywhere in the country, but the RCMP seems to track them down within a few days one way or another.

At least they got him alive - it'll be interesting to see if we ever get to find out why he did it.

I get you - it doesn't really matter in the end. He did it and those people will still be dead. But - it might help to be able to prevent this kind of thing in the future.

Mind you not letting a guy out on parole who has 59 convictions for violent offenses might be a start as well.

Saskatchewan RCMP confirmed Wednesday the capture of Myles Sanderson, a suspect in one of the worst mass killings in Canadian history, after an intense four-day search that held national and international attention.

Multiple police sources have told Global News that Sanderson has since died, which they believe was a result of self-inflicted injuries. The sources did not say when those injuries were sustained during the takedown or when exactly he died, only that it was some time after he was apprehended.
