Ottawa police begin increased enforcement, choking off protesters' fuel supplies, issuing 450 tickets

"Enforcement is underway," the Ottawa Police Service tweeted on Sunday afternoon.

It represents a significant change in the police response to the chaotic situation in Ottawa — where demonstrators have become entrenched in the city's downtown core, setting up structures and securing supplies of food and gas.

Amid increasing resident anger, police said on Saturday that they lack the resources to end the protest, which began about eight days ago.

Politicians have also increasingly denounced the protest over COVID-19 public health restrictions, with Ontario Premier Doug Ford and others calling it an "occupation" and the head of the Ottawa Police Services Board referring to it as an "insurrection."

Wow….that’s even handed. They declared a State of Emergency here…just like they did with Idle No More & BLM & Antifa & the Wer’suwet’en Pipeline protest that all dragged out longer than 8 days or whatever!!

Justin Trudeau for the The Federal Gov’t preemptively called everyone Racists & misogynists before they even arrived in Ottawa (with Jagmeet as back-up) to be the first to play the race card somehow, and then this for these people but not for the others that might call the Fed’s a pack of Racists….Holy Hypocritic’s Batman!!!

Happened to have the radio when out a while ago . The West Block , Mercedes Stevenson , man the way she was characterizing the protesters was the exact opposite from everything I see on independent blogs and the videos etc. I have here . Don’t these news people understand that most everyone is connected now a days ?

City solicitor David White told city councillors on Saturday that the declaration of a state of emergency "does little" in terms of legal authority and does not give more power to Ottawa police.

A local state of emergency will allow Ottawa to work more efficiently to manage essential services and make procurement more flexible, the city said. Provincial legislation grants mayors powers during an emergency to make orders "not contrary to law to implement the emergency plan of the municipality and to protect property and the health, safety and welfare of the inhabitants of the emergency area."

Earlier in the afternoon, Ottawa police announced they would ramp up enforcement on protesters in the city's downtown core, handing out tickets and announcing that anyone looking to bring "material aid," such as fuel, to protesters could be arrested.

So they want to Freeze & Starve them out (?) to end this as opposed to other protests? They don’t have any blankets infected with Small Pox to hand out? Wow…

The state of emergency and increased police action represent significant changes in the response to the chaotic situation in Ottawa — where demonstrators have become entrenched in the city's downtown core, setting up structures and securing supplies of food and gas.

Structures in place in Ottawa's Confederation Park, including a plywood shack and tents, were removed on Sunday after protesters co-operated with police.

When this happened in Regina, it went on for 243 days I believe…
Amid increasing resident anger, police said on Saturday that they lack the resources to end the protest, now in its 10th day.

Politicians have also increasingly denounced the protest over COVID-19 public health restrictions, with Ontario Premier Doug Ford and others calling it an "occupation" and the head of the Ottawa Police Services Board referring to it as an "insurrection."

A protest with the word “Occupy” in its name? Sounds so familiar, & I think it went on more months & months instead of 10 days.

Local, provincial and federal politicians have condemned the protesters' actions and called for a solution. But what that solution might be remains unclear? On Saturday, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh also pushed the government to seek a solution, but he did not provide a clear plan?

Meh…it does not appear that the law of Wokeness is being applied evenly.

Yep, "selective enforcement."

Outlaw everything, then pick and choose whom you enforce the law on.

Ya know, this is kinda what BLM has been saying all along. . . when your town is 90% percent White, and 90% of the tickets issued for air-fresheners hanging from the car mirror are to Black people, is it really about air fresheners?
