That's the kind of sensationalist bullshit that has people talking about "the age of ignorance". People banging their lips together trotting out buzzwords without a freakin clue what they're talking about. Canada is already a blend of free market capitalism and socialism. Without socialism you wouldn't have the access to healthcare and education that we have already. We have a progressive income tax system where those who make more pay taxes at a higher rate than those making less. The system is basically good, it's just gotten out of balance favouring a very few at the top, and needs some tweaking. I grew up in a day where a single income could support a mortgage payment, a car payment, decent food on the table and maybe take a family holiday in the summer or send a kid to college. Now it's standard to have both parents working just to make ends meet. This all goes back to the post WW2 industrial boom and the shift away from stakeholder capitalism to a profit-over-people attitude that has given us a shrinking middle class and slowly collapsing social systems.
That was not what you were saying. And, yes I am fully aware that Canada is a blend of Capitalism with socialism. I think it is an effective mix. You were talking about a much deeper than that.

"From where I see it, it all comes down to money, who has it, who doesn't, and the totally lopsided ratio in the way it's divided among our society in general. Economic inequality has its claws in social inequality."

This implies you want to redistribute the wealth. Redistribution is more of a Marxist concept.

I had to look that one up, and you are right, it is not an conservative principle, but like the word "woke", it holds different meanings for people of different political persuasions. From where I see it, it all comes down to money, who has it, who doesn't, and the totally lopsided ratio in the way it's divided among our society in general. Economic inequality has its claws in social inequality. Our major political parties are only at fault in that at the end of the day the shots are called by those with the deepest pockets.
Actually, woke doesn't even consider financial aspects, only racial. If it was all about money, then obviously there are truths to the fact there are haves and have nots. Not so with race. Leftists are all about race and race only which is divisive!

We already redistribute wealth through our progressive income tax system. It just needs some adjustment. Calling it Marxism is a gross overstatement, like calling right wingers "fascists" or anyone who votes liberal a "socialist". It would be accurate to say that in Canada the right is closer to fascism than the left but that would be totally misleading as fascism and communism are at extreme opposite ends of the politcal spectrum, and all Canadian parties are pretty close to center.

The Oxford Dictionary defines "woke" as "alert to injustice in society, especially racism." Especially, but not restricted to. What I'm saying is that economic inequality is at the root of a lot more of our problems than people know, or would care to admit.

Leftists are not "all about race", they're just more about different forms of injustice than most on the right, racism included.

I disagree with you. We don't need to tweek it. The issue is not too low taxation but a grossly ineffective administration of those funds. I do not support any more of my paycheck being stolen from me to be wasted by TrueDope. I have enough issues paying the bills as it is without losing some of my income to more taxation. And the issues which you refer are more on the cost of living rather than income anyways at least in Toronto.

You using words you don't understand has everything to do with the conversation.
I still don't get your point. I realize you're more of a stand back and throw stones type than actually contributing to a discussion, but a few details now and then might help with your credibility.

Taxation is just one aspect of any fix, but it would be an essential part. The current state of things in Canada has been fifty years in the making, it's going to need a long term fix to avoid making a total mess of the economy. There really isn't a successful argument against the thought that our current economic structure favours the rich. The good jobs go to those with the best education, and that education takes money. What if entry into our post-secondary education system were based on aptitude rather than depth of pockets? Would it be a nice idea to have our brightest and best running the show rather than those with rich daddies?

I didn't get into university based upon money. Yes it cost money to go but it made me appreciate the education (unlike free high school). I did have to have good grades to get in. And I had to maintain them. Plenty of freshmen didn't make it beyond 2nd year due to too much time fluffing around and not enough time studying.

If you give it to people, the next thing they will want no grades and then the degree will be worthless.

Where is this shrinking middle class ? Certainly not in British Columbia .

When hasn’t there been economic inequality . Those at the top always have all the money and power . You just want to rearrange the chairs and make everybody else poorer in the process .

Yes , that is how we ended up in the quagmire we are presently in , trying to influence the best and brightest into parliament by raising the renumeration of MPs . That got us Hedi Fry , Svend Robertson and about 326 others .
