wow. They parlay $250,000 a day into a million a day?
That is some kind of magic there.
In 2018 you had to earn about $737,000 a year to be considered in the top 1%
I'm sure its closer to a million now.
That's what makes your anger towards government so hilarious.
They are nowhere near the top 1%
More like $300 000. TB and I had this discussion a while ago.

We're on page 19 of this thread and still not a mention of exactly what spending should have been prevented.
It's easy to say there's too much spending but it's hard to say which spending should have been prevented.
By preventing an economic disaster the federal government has reduced the amount of damage done to Canadians and Canadian companies.
That's a good thing.
Any that went to other countries was poor spending. We can not borrow money to give to turdOWE's third world dictator friends.

But what programs would you cut the funding for?
Who does without?
Certainly not the oil industry!
Another poor expenditure is the huge subsidies given to electric cat buyers and the continued subsidizing of their use later.
IF only the oil industry could get a tiny bit of that gravy.

If you had been paying attention you would find it's been mentioned. I've mentioned at least once or twice, the stupidity of handing out money nilly willy to people who have never even undergone a means test. Read and listen more and talk less! :)

I would terminate all funding for athletics of any type including the Olympics. It's all become superficial and irrelevant. Might as well race cyborgs and probably where they are headed anyway.

How much do you think I would save?

Would be risking ticking off snowboarders who compete in all 8 snowboard disciplines and represent Canada so well. Really exciting tv.

Sponsored athletes making more than seniors. Good priorities. Of course we have to fund Paralympians and their coaches.

A pay raise for Canada's Olympians and Paralympians is rolling out with the Winter Games just weeks away.

Sports Minister Kent Hehr revealed details of the increased money in the Athletes Assistance Program on Friday at WinSport, where many athletes train.

They receive monthly "carding" cheques from the AAP for living expenses and sport costs their federations don't cover.

A senior card is now worth $1,765 a month for a $265 increase. Development card athletes get $1,060, which is a top-up of $160.

"This increase in funding will continue to allow athletes to strive for the podium," Hehr said in a statement.

Sickening isn't it? My son who has been waiting months for back surgery and ordered by the doctor NOT to work until he's recovered from surgery is still waiting while existing on government generosity to the tune of $800 a month, thanks to Alberta Gov't.

lol cut funding to athletes
brilliant move

It's not just the athletes that are the issue. They probably make the least. It's the coaches and trainers and managers and support staff and on and on.

For what? Who cares? Those days are done, It's all about endorsements.

Why do you laugh? I thought you were my friend.

I'm laughing because you are talking about spending that has nothing to do with the pandemic.

Almost a quarter of a million Canadians sign up on day one for the CERB 2.0

Up to $500 a week for 26 weeks.

You would think that O'Toole and the gang would be on the phone to each and every one of these people explaining why they were not entitled to it.

Some of them are and some of them aren't! A smart person would identify three or four thousand jobs in each province that need doing & put them on a list according to need and other criteria. Then you put the word that there are jobs paying $500/week for those who want them and interview willing participants for qualifications. You make it clear if they quit or get fired they are exempt from future programs. Where there is sufficient number of jobs for all the unemployed you then cancel the welfare programs, except for the disabled and elderly.

However, unlike the US banks, where they must maintain a liquidity reserve requirement of 10%, Canadian banks have a 0% reserve requirement, thus affording them the ability to create a virtually unlimited amount of money “out of thin air” (see: “ Fractional Reserve Banking System “).

This February Putin crowed in his state of the nation speech that Russia’s cash reserves had grown so big the country can now cover its external debt dollar-for-dollar with cash as Russia’s gross international reserves (GIR) overtook the external debt for the first time ever.

Total Russian debt estimated at $248 billion (13% of GDP), Canadian debt estimated at 1.2 trillion (88% of GDP). Average tax in Russia 13%, average tax in Canada 34%.

Would we be better off living in Russia?

We still don't know how many recipients will be forced to return money come tax time in the spring of 2021. Trudeau wants to the budget to balance itself.

Whew Libs. listening to Canadians and looks to be dropping the Green initiative for now

Coronavirus: As Canadians huddled at home, feds found meagre support for green recovery plan

But the polling also told the Trudeau government two other things: there appeared to be little appetite for an economic recovery plan that placed a high priority on quickly transforming to a carbon-neutral economy;......More
