I can see the point for those who survived/were victims of the shooting.

But I hope this also sets not just president, but also likely delays and stricter checks into who goes into hotels and such now. If insurers are going to be held liable for such a thing, expect to have guests luggage checked, or limited I would think depending on days staying, of hotels.

Or least, that wouldn't shock me if it happened anyway.

$800 million not even a good month for Nevada casinos.

All those people are only worth three weeks of the money that gets deposited there by gambling addicts?

You can give them more. You would seem as much liable as the hotel in the incident.

Did I help bring the tools of his trade to your front lawn??

Remember, the bellman helped him bring up several carts.. Don't know if that makes them liable, but the courts did

Did the bellman know that is what they were helping him with? What if he had taken them up without anybody's help? The implication here is all hotels need to have metal detectors and search everybody's bag. That seems quite stupid.

Which is bullshit. Unless the bellhop had X-Ray vision how was he to know what's in the bags? It's not like hotels have the right to check inside your luggage.
Being liable should not involve being unlucky enough to have some whack-job use your establishment to commit a mass shooting. I mean if that's the case then the govt should be sued every time someone is murdered on public property.

They haven't been found liable.

They're paying the bucks to make sure that never happens.

Again, this is a choice freely made by a private corporation in what it considers its best interests. No wonder the soi-disant "capitalists" are busting a blood vessel.

Hey, how bout some government intervention to protect them from due process of law? That wouldn't be socialist or nothing.

The only people who have any rational reason to be upset are the shareholders.

But it's nice to see our capitalists have soft spot in their hearts for multi-billion dollar corporations, and are OUTRAGED that they voluntarily chose to settle with those greedy bastards (formerly known as "grieving families") who lost loved ones in the shooting.

Screw them. We should make THEM pay MGM for "damage to reputation!"

Is the payoff tax deductable?

I didn't realize this was out of court. I thought it was ordered by a judge and therefore precedent Obviously they may have felt this was less risk and maybe even cheaper than going to court settlement (those damn lawyers can be expensive).
