I don't doubt hardships existed, they also did in the USSR as well as the UK in the early days of the industrial revolution. How much of that suffering was caused by 'the West' by refusing to sell them modern machines so they were forced to go the same route the UK and the US did when they were run only by 'company towns' or are they stuff found only in fables? I have linked a vid that covers the USSR and China in the last century and the trend seems to be more like the price the west demanded for electrical devices was made to look them like tyrants while Capitalism was a shinning beacon when the opposite is true.
