Imaging losing your job merely for differing ever so slightly from the politically correct dogma of the time.
Sounds positively medieval.
But I’m not talking about Galileo Galilei, the 17th-Century Italian astronomer who ran afoul of the religious authorities of his day for refusing to affirm that God’s creation (the Earth) was at the centre of the universe.
I’m not even referring to the Maoist shaming circles in which people suspected of differing from official Communist doctrine were publicly humiliated before being stripped of their positions and sent for reeducation.
I’m referring to Jacqui Tam, the 21st-Century university vice-president who was forced to resign last Sunday because – get this – she approved a billboard campaign that implied very, very indirectly that global warming might not be 100% evil and destructive.
(I have stated many times that Our idiot Boy Justin and his loser LIE-berals are aspiring Soviet Socialist Dictators!! Their obsession with entirely remaking every aspect of our lives into a model THEY approve of is UNHEALTHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Global warming wasn’t even the subject of the billboard. Rather, the subject was innovative work being done by University of Alberta crop science professors to help farmers and ranchers adapt to changing weather and soil conditions.
(The key objection to LIE-beral policy is that their carbon tax SCAM only cleans cash from wallets and leaves the dirt in the air!! The idea that a person can have their career wrecked for suggesting such a thing is the kind of policy that murderous thugs like Chairman Mao and Pol Pot would approve of!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
The ads read “Beefier barley: climate change will boost Alberta’s barley yield with less water, feeding more cattle.”
Yes, if you’re hypersensitive and hyper-politicized about global warming, I can see how you might instantly flame out about such a statement. However, the billboard was based on work by earth and atmospheric sciences professor Monireh Faramarzi who modelled the effects of projected climate change on Alberta barley production (barley is a common cattle feed) and found that projected climate change will likely increase barley yields though at least 2064.
That sounds neither impossible nor unreasonable. There have been times in Earth’s past when it was warmer than it is now, with more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and plant life thrived.
Is it possible Faramarzi is wrong about the upside? Sure. In true science, anything is possible.

But we live in an age of politicized science not natural science, an age when climate change has become the state religion. Deviate, even a millimetre from the apocalyptic One True Faith and someone such as Jacqui Tam is shouted down as the worst of all sinners, the unbeliever.

Even professor Faramarzi, whose work indirectly was the foundation of the billboards (although she wasn’t even aware of the ad campaign until after it had become the subject of an hysterical overreaction), was forced to genuflect before the high priests of climate science.
“Our intention was not to construe negative or positive impacts of overall climate change,” Faramarzi told Postmedia. “It was really just about the barley. We’re not denying any climate change.”
University of Alberta President David Turpin -who should be a defender of intelligent, academic inquiry, if anyone is, immediately threw Tam under the Political Correctness Express. If only Tam had run the ad by him first, Turpin sighed for reporters, it would never have seen the light of day. Yes! That’s the sort of courageous defence of robust discourse we want at institutions of higher learning.

Of course, these days universities are just about the last place to look for free expression. With speech codes, safe spaces, thought police, mobs that shout down unfashionable ideas, microaggressions, trigger words, social media lynchings and more, they have become temples of intolerance at a cost of billions a year to taxpayers.

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau took an "unprecedented" step by wearing a bulletproof vest at a campaign rally in response to a security threat, say two veteran RCMP sources.

The sources, who are familiar with the operations of the prime minister's personal security detail, told CBC News they've seen leaders wear body armour in other countries, but not Canada.

On Saturday, Trudeau's scheduled appearance at a rally of 2,000 supporters in Mississauga was delayed by 90 minutes and featured a much heavier security detail once he took the stage.
Uniformed tactical officers wearing knapsacks, as well as officers in plainclothes, surrounded him as he addressed the crowd. Some of the plainclothes officers were from Trudeau's protective detail, while others were from the VIP protective policing unit.
CBC News sources confirmed that at the Mississauga rally, Trudeau wore a bulletproof vest — also known as soft body armour — and that the beefed-up protection was a result of a security threat. The details of that threat have not been revealed.

The uniformed men were with the RCMP's Emergency Response Team, which is usually at Trudeau's events, but kept out of sight. They are trained to resolve extremely high-risk situations that are potentially violent and often dynamic in nature, according to the RCMP's website. Along with VIP and witness protection duties, the team resolves incidents where people are armed and barricaded in a building.
The knapsacks they carried held firearms, according to RCMP sources. As well, one officer wore a ballistic shield on his back that looks like a rolled up mat. This shield can be used to cover Trudeau, making him a more difficult target for an attacker. But the shield can also be used to stop bullets.
RCMP sources told CBC News that police conduct threat assessments for all events that political leaders attend. When a leader faces a serious security threat, the protective detail will then sit down with the leader to discuss how the RCMP want to move forward. They all will then negotiate a plan.

Speaking about the incident to reporters at a food drive event in Toronto on Sunday, Trudeau refused to offer any specifics about the threat, saying only that his first concern was for the safety of his family and for all those at the Mississauga event.

Last month, sources told CBC News the RCMP were compiling daily threat reports on online hate targeting political leaders during the campaign leading up to the Oct. 21 election, fearing it could spill over into real-world violence.
