No, the USA is the British Empire, along with a handful of client states like Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and a bunch of hangers-on.
Britain was once a meaningless outpost of the Roman Empire. Later, it rose to something bigger.
The American colonies were a not-very-important outpost of the British Empire. Now, Britain is to the U.S. as Italy is to Britain.

True that. During WW2 the Brits couldn't understand why the natives of at least one the islands they controlled sided with the Japanese. A decision I'm sure they seriously regretted but nonetheless, it does demonstrate that the British weren't exactly sweethearts. But then few imperial powers throughout history were. You don't build empires on kind deeds and kumbya moments unfortunately.
