Yep cost of living will rise accordingly
And yet, it never has. Ever. The cost of living has never risen as far as the increase in wages.

But I'm sure it will this time.

Here's something to think about, if you have the mental capacity. All y'all Real Americans and Old Stock Canadians love to piss and moan about how "half of the people don't pay taxes." What you mean, of course, is that they don't pay Federal income tax, and do pay plenty of other taxes, but the lie sounds better than the truth, so you go with the lie, because you're liars.

But the point is, at a minimum wage of $15 per hour, the vast majority that don't make enough money to pay Federal income tax will make enough to pay Federal income tax. That's what you want, isn't it?

Oh, right, it's not. You want to tell whatever lies you need to tell so you can feel hard-done-by.

Forget it.

Look ASSHOLE - You should start addressing your own lying, before admonishing others for it!

It is already known that goods must rise in price to afford the raise in pay, especially in the service industry

And yet, they never have risen as far as the increase in minimum wage. I know why that is, because I use these things called "facts."

You use "it is known."

But I suppose your formulation makes sense to anybody stupid enough to believe that labor costs are the only factor in price. And you are, so you do.

But I'm sure you know all about goods in the service industry.

What facts are you using?

What measures would have to be put into place to freeze inflation to get the desired results?

I don’t see many people saying that on here . Where the government gains on an increase in minimum wage is in payroll taxes .

Perhaps, but don't forget the fact that a lot of minimum wage jobs are 'under the table' type jobs.

Pros and Cons of Raising Minimum Wage

I think there's a bit of bull shit in the above. $455 a week does NOT equal $27.63 an hour. The statement that raising minimum wage to $10+ an hour will reduce the numbers in poverty...………………………….maybe for one month!

Pros and Cons of Raising Minimum Wage

That you think $455 a week equals $27.63 an hour shows your arithmetic skills, just as abbreviating Fair Labor Standards Act as FSLA shows your language skills.

The fact that this is your idea of an authoritative analysis is a hoot!

Thanks!

on the topic there was an report this week that to afford a one bedroom apartment in Vancouver you would need to makes something like $27 an hour.

So two people working for minimum wage could afford a one bedroom apartment. As log as rent was their only expense.

the system is breaking down.

Maybe. If they don't eat or shop at the food bank.

Only partly true.At least in Canada. The poor also receive provincial tax breaks as well as subsidies for various things like being old, young , having kids, at one time even for having dogs.

when the people you need to work cannot afford to live in the place where they work - something is amiss.

there is a disconnect between wages and rents in some places and I don't see how it gets fixed.

The homeless shelter I volunteer at, and the sally ann food bank, both try to provide pet foods.
:(
..and lately also tents because, as I warned them, "We are going to need a shelter for the people who don't qualify for your shelter".

Money laundering ( like the JP MORGAN 20 TON COKESHIP BUST, or from Chinese fentanyl money smuggled in with illegal rape immigrants ) has driven up the rents, and of course, wages have not risen. But Minimum wage is not the answer. Decent jobs and proper mental health services are.
;)
and maybe certain speculators should just be terminated brutally for crimes against humanity.

When they put a limit of 30 days per year of access per homeless person well...Pfffft. WTF are they going to do NEXT winter? All the people I meet camping when I am out "walking the parks" have already used up their 30 days for this year.
