Here is a nice article opening up a debate on a critical Cdn issue. With some comments of my own in brackets):

Over the weekend we learned about two unfortunate incidents involving Conservative leadership candidates that underscore why Canadian values matter now more than ever.
Deepak Obhrai, an Alberta MP, received a flurry of racist emails telling him to leave the country and go back to where he came from.
Obhrai came here in 1977 from Tanzania – likely before some of his less than inclusive correspondents were even born. Before he was a politician, Obhrai worked as an accountant and business owner.
He’s been a valuable contributor to our society for decades. If anyone feels uncomfortable living in the same country as Obhrai, they should get the hell out of here, not him.
(Isn`t it ODD that LIE-berals all refer to Conservatives as intolerant, mouth breathing rednecks and yet as soon as LIE-beral tempers fray, they immediately bring out the racist insults? It’s the LIE-beral hypocrite way or the highway!)
(And it is not only federal LIE-berals that are so racially insensitive! Ontari-owe NDPers were force to apologize to a minister in the newly elected Ford govt- for MOCKING his Hindu accent!LIE-berals and their less intelligent NDP cousins demand that others behave better than them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Meanwhile, provincial police were called after what appeared to be an attempted break-in at Ontario MP Kellie Leitch’s home. I have family in the area Leitch lives in and I know there’s been a recent string of garage break-ins right around there, so make of this what you will. But this happened, according to her campaign, shortly after someone publicly offered to reveal Leitch’s address to anyone upset with her.
Leitch advocates screening prospective immigrants for anti-Canadian values. Obhrai, along with other candidates, does not agree with that policy.
It’s a topic that riles people up. Leitch stirred the pot further by likening her plan to Donald Trump’s “extreme vetting” of Muslim immigrants.
You can understand why both candidates might be subject to attacks online and worse. People want to silence them. So where do we go from here?
Is this all Leitch’s fault? Is she the villain for even suggesting, in a campaign questionnaire sent out back in August, such a values test?
Far from it. Let’s not blame the victim here.
Leitch has started an important conversation. Those observers calling her all the names in the book need to consider two things:
First, a Forum Research poll showed a clear majority of Canadians like the idea. This includes 87% of Conservative supporters, 59% of NDPers and 57% of Liberals. Canadians support her. No wonder she’s not backing down.
(Oh dear me.....57 percent of LIE-berals AND 59 percent of NDPers SUPPORT Leitch on this matter? Our brainless Boy prime minister has his work cut out for him to persuade us his open border policy and rapidly growing collection of illegals- who NEVER faced any real security checks upon arrival- are NOT A BAD THING for us!!)
( And what of the mass of LIE-beral minded people who raged on sites like Craigslist decrying the number of welfare bums loitering around Metro Toronto Housing buildings? Might these people hold strong opinions about immigrants that are also at odds with those of Our stupid Boy? Our civil service union Hgos are hostile to the illegals because they are sucking up govt welfare cash that Hogs want for themselves!)
(Recently some talking heads on TVO/Agenda suggested that the voter coalition that put Our brainless Boy in charge in 2015 might not be there for him in the next election! Has Our stupid Boy even noticed this yet? Given his stated preference for NOT reading newspapers or magazines since he figures that if anything important happens, somebody will tell him about it? How out of touch IS Our Boy?)
Second, take a look at Leitch’s definition of Canadian values. Here’s what she told the media in September: “Screening potential immigrants for anti-Canadian values that include intolerance towards other religions, cultures and sexual orientations, violent and/or misogynist behaviour and/or a lack of acceptance of our Canadian tradition of personal and economic freedoms is a policy proposal that I feel very strongly about.”
Who’s against this? What’s wrong with developing our screening methods with this inclusive philosophy in mind? Bizarrely, some MPs and pundits have said this can’t even be done. That’s nonsense and they know it.
CSIS has already acknowledged Syrian refugee applications that raised a “red flag” were put aside. And we can define red flags however we please.
(LIE-berals have now paid out OVER FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS to five Muslim immigrants/refugees who got caught up in the security net put up after 9/11 terror attack! If LIE-berals were so suspicious of these Muslims that it seemed likely they might be behind the World Trade attack- then WHY IN HELL would LIE-berals let them into the country in the first place? WHY TAKE THE RISK? There are so many desperate people in the world- there is NO VALID REASON to accept the most dangerous ones!)
Obhrai doesn’t agree with Leitch’s specific proposal. But it’s not as if he’s against defining values in general.
(I suggest that if Leitch gave Obhrai a guarantee that her `Cdn values` test would only be used against Muslims who happen to be AT WAR with Canada at this time, he might substantially relent on his position?)
“Sharia law is incompatible with Canada,” he said at a leader’s debate last week.
(See, we ALL KNOW its Muslims we need to be afraid of! Its simply a question of how lightly politicians want to pussyfoot around them in exchange for votes!)
Living in downtown Toronto, I regularly speak with new and not so new immigrants who’ve come from all over the world, specifically because they have views like Obhrai’s. Or Leitch’s. Many of them were attracted to Canada precisely because of our collective values. Not in spite of them.
Instead of intimidating anyone who broaches the subject of values and shutting down the conversation, we need to broaden it and hone it to make sure our policies reflect the Canadian consensus. If we don’t, we’re letting everyone down.
Not least of all the people who come here to share our values.
(The issue of Cdn values is more important than ever as LIE-berals are working so very hard to import teems tens of thousands of people who DESPISE Cdn values and want to change them!)

China has had a profound economic and political impact in Australia and New Zealand.
From a hill overlooking Canberra, Australia's landlocked capital, Clive Hamilton points to the National Carillon, a bell tower that happens to be striking noon, then to a massive glass and concrete monolith.
"That's where ASIO lives," he says, using the common shorthand for Australia's intelligence agency, the Australian Security Intelligence Organization.
He then points out Australia's federal police building and to a compound in the middle, where China built its embassy.
"They picked that spot, and they have a lot of clout, they have a vast compound, and they kind of get what they want around here," he says.
When Hamilton, a professor at Charles Sturt University, first tried to publish his new book, Silent Invasion: China's Influence in Australia, the fear of China's Communist Party crept in, he says. Hamilton's original publisher, Allen and Unwin, informed him last November that it was cancelling the book's publication because it feared legal action from what it called "Beijing's agents of influence."
"I was shocked," remembers Hamilton. "I felt betrayed. We knew this was a difficult subject. We knew that Beijing has some powerful friends in Australia. We knew that the Chinese government would be highly critical of the book and of me. Of course, it was great comfort to have a really good, solid publisher behind me, and all of a sudden I was left out there on the battlefield, looking over my shoulder, saying, 'Where is my support?' "
(And no doubt the same sort of reluctance would overcome many Cdn publishers speaking against China! Chinse dictators CAN order their citizens to work in any way desired for govt benefit but western govts are subject to public will and MONEY TALKS LOUDEST to western govts! The original publisher of Clive Hamilton's book detailing Chinese influence in Australia canceled publication for fear of legal threats.
"It's a massive red flag," says Hamilton. "And if Australia capitulates on this question, in other words, no book seriously critical of [the] Chinese Communist Party will be published in Australia. I mean, this essentially means we've sacrificed our democratic freedoms."
(Yes- I would say that moral surrender is definitely looming on the Oz horizon!)
China's rise under the Communist Party has had a profound impact on Australia. The country is Australia's biggest trading partner by a long shot, accounting for nearly a quarter of Australia's trade. China's demand for commodities like iron ore in the early 2000s fueled a mining boom in Australia that created jobs and steadily pushed up wages. Later, as China's urban consumer class grew, young professionals from Shanghai and Beijing turned to Australian steak, milk and wine. Nearly a third of Australian exports now head to China.
Wealthy visitors from China frequently travel to Australia as tourists or to buy property, leading to a historic rise in home values along the country's coasts.

But public intellectuals like Hamilton, and politicians, are beginning to question whether these economic benefits have come at too steep a price. Another Australian publisher eventually released Hamilton's book. But the impact a powerful foreign autocracy had on his work, inside his own supposedly free and democratic home country, left him shaken. It was a reminder, says Hamilton, of how deeply China's Communist Party has infiltrated Australian society.

Silent Invasion identifies more than 40 former and current Australian politicians who he says are doing the bidding of China's government, many unwittingly. Several politicians have denied Hamilton's claims.

Hamilton says China's Communist Party has infiltrated Chinese-Australian associations devoted to students and scholars, writers and religious activities. "From taking over Chinese associations, buying political influence, promoting Beijing-loyal people into elected political positions, buying influence in universities by sponsoring think tanks, cyber-intrusion operations, you name it, they're doing it," he says.
(Yes- and just like in Canada- LIE-berals are SCORNING such ugly reality!)
But Australia is beginning to fight back. Last December, former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced Australia's biggest overhaul in espionage and intelligence laws in decades, after a senator accepted illegal donations from a Chinese businessman with close ties to China's Communist Party.
(Has Canada managed to avoid sinking that low- or is it that we simply have not yet caught any LIE-berals in such dirty deeds just yet? One has to wonder how LIE-beral Atwal Grewal got himself so deeply in debt to gambling houses with out anybody noticing for well over a year!)
"Foreign powers are making unprecedented and increasingly sophisticated attempts to influence the political process both here and abroad," said P.M. Turnbull, announcing the bill. New laws, he said, "will protect our way of life, they will protect and strengthen our democracy and they will ensure that Australians make decisions based on the wishes of Australians."
(Oh we could wish that Cdns get the same opportunity to make their own choices in an atmosphere free of foreign bribery and LIE-beral Fake News!)
The new package of laws, which Australia's Parliament passed in June, will require anyone in Australia working on behalf of a foreign power to declare that connection to the government. But in the case of Chinese citizens, state connections can be tricky to gauge.
(Actually it is not so hard for a cynic to gauge the political activities of a Chinese citizen since one of the rules which regulate the creation of Chinese corporations is the requirement that they will- whenever asked- immediately conform to the needs and demands of Chinese Red Army agents!)

"China's different in scale and it's different also in that it can integrate the private sector, education, civil society — all arms, if you like — of the state and the community with the objectives of the Chinese Communist Party," says Rory Medcalf, head of the National Security College at Australian National University. "We're not really dealing with a normal country here. We're dealing with an authoritarian party state, where in fact Chinese citizens owe a higher loyalty to the party than to the state itself. So what we're dealing with here is the largest secret organization in human history."

China's embassy in Canberra has responded to allegations in Australian media of improper influence over Australia as racist attacks on Chinese people.

Recently Ontari-owe premier Wynne made a snarling reference to anonymous people sniping at her on social media. Her position is undignified and wrong!
