I don't know if Canadians can build a better truck. But that raises the question of if Canada's the best place to build a truck, why aren't foreign truck manufacturers moving in?
foreign trucks are ok. if all you want to do is drive it to and from your work in the city, a Toyota tundra will do you just fine. The reason why they could never manufacture them in Canada is because they don't haul horse trailers and excavating trailers worth a damn. Their diesel engines run away scared if you show them anything in the 18,000 lb range.
If there's a demand for them and no one else is filling the demand, then why aren't investors pouncing on the opportunity?
Anyway,I'm not taking sides here. Show me a Dodge, Ford, or a GM with a 3/4 ton suspension and a strong motor, and I know why the foreign manufactures aren't moving into the country.
But to lose all our pickups to US and mexico, I would say that we are as dumb as a sack of hammers, and those terrible Trumpites south of the border are laughing it up at our expense.

If you connect the line between working class Canadians and hard working pickup trucks, the pickup holds a status much different and much more admirable than the gas guzzling v10 SUV that disgust most of us especially when they were owned by city drivers. I'm saying that we are sort of losing our heritage when we stop making pickup trucks.
You do realize that the imported trucks aren't going to cost any less than they did when they were Canadian made. They just won't employ Canadians anymore.
And, we lose all the things that come with the factory. Schools, bridges, hospitals, parks. All the good shit that doesn't come off the boat with the Mexican made Dodge truck.
Simple question. If a business can build better trucks in Canada than abroad, then why isn't that happening?
The honda Accord is a people mover and not a cargo mover. it will be subjected to the same trends and pressures that all vehicles are subjected to.
Trucks have a practical and hard working aspect to them. Even when they are not economical at moving people, they make sense for moving cargo. You can not save the envirement by making dozens of trips in a honda accord to move something that can by carried in 1 trip with a pickup.I don't see that need changing in the future. If trucks start to lose in sales it will be the demographic that probably shouldnt have them.
There are actually people out there that don't build their own fences and don't lift a finger when something heavy needs to be moved by their family and friends. I reccommend that they buy a car. hell, they can even spew BS out of their mouths about how evil my truck is, but then don't expect me to help them out when they need it.
I'm pretty sure the move in Canada was part of the US downsizing program as GM is nor a Canadian business, it is a foreign owned business so why would we have a say in what they do or don't do?

Should it be pointed out that Canada was subsidizing US Companies rather than they were Canadian companies. We are not allowed to 'strike off on our own' or has that not sunk in yet??
I absolutely agree with you. Trudeau & Butts must be laughing like hell because they've created the exact climate for business that they've wanted all along and if re-elected, will continue along the same path. They want us to be more reliant on government and poorer, that's for sure!
