I think that there has been a wake up call for CDA NOT to put all its eggs in one basket....so to speak. CDA is starting to branch;out more on the international stage for trade etc. It might be one positive from the so called "Trump effect". He personified so clearly how different the US and CDA is when it comes to core principles etc. It's bitter sweet, there's close to 200 leaders around the world who are likely easier to deal with and the U.S. doesn't really have much that we need (from what I can see) Trump is more talk than walk (stumble)
Hey.....but now Trump can brag about facilitating changes to NAFTA under threat of tearing it up........and imposing ridiculous tariffs ..........(bully crass tactics) We can almost predict how HE will spin it.https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/30/politics/trump-nafta-canada/index.html
CNN article about the deal with zero details.
Its says Canada agrees to relax access to the Canadian dairy market and they get to keep the dispute revolution.
There will be literally no changes worth talking about just like the Mexico deal. They will change a few minor details and call it a new deal so they can vanquish the Clinton Nafta legacy.
What a bunch of bullshit
Like limited access into Canada is going to save the American dairy industry.
What's wrong with the American dairy industry is corporate America. The family farm is not efficient.
"There were nearly 650,000 dairy farms in the U.S. in 1970, but just 40,219 remained at the end of 2017, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Cows are producing more milk than ever, but they’re consolidated on bigger, more efficient farms. In 1987, half of American dairy farms had 80 or fewer cows; by 2012, that figure had risen to 900 cows."
So Canadian dairy subsidies are a red herring that Trump can use to distract from the fact that he and his Wall Street pals are the root cause.
Unfortunately, it plays to the "great President who extracted a deal from those nasty Canadians" narrative among his followers.Looks like the usual Trump deal. Almost no significant changes favouring the US. In fact Canada actually reached a better deal in the auto sector than it already had, while giving only a minuscule increase to the US on the dairy issue. No doubt Trump will Trumpet it as a great deal for the US, but the fact is that most of the agreement is pretty much unchanged despite the change in name.
