Actually we had a mortgage and what we bought for 30,000, is now worth close to 400,000. and we were able to put three children through college pay for two farms. We actually had several weeks holidays every year because we were able to pay for a herdsman to milk our herd of cows. We ended up with 3 farms worth very much more than the house.

So, think of all those people we helped put to work by making those decisions.

I thought you said in another thread that the you were so poor from farming you had to go back to work and help milk before you went to, and returned from work

Now, I do. After thinking it out though I realize. even when my Canada pension is clawed back I am still way way ahead of where I would have been if I had waited to save enough to pay cash. Just think of all the jobs that I created by using debt properly!!

Yes I did ..... Mainly because of two very dry years where the price of cattle feed sky rocketed. The feed was purchased from the west and even from New Brunswick & where ever else we could get it. Nature does get antsy some times, even in this lush valley there are occasional bad years.

In later years the province brought in crop inurance for certain types of crops. In the end I mostly loved the variety of both sides of my life and I stayed doing both . I retired from the hospital earlier than I needed to but kept the farms until I was sure none of the family was interested. Now I have the house which overlooks the Chateuauy river and am able to hire people to help look after the grounds.

Similar for us just not cattle but a fair size grain operation. I'm ready to move on the farm but the Mrs refuses to work in that health district.

Many countries in the past and some in the present see war as profitable. No longer is this so for the country, maybe still for arms manufacturers if they are powerful enough to control the government. Anyway, in my opinion we can no longer control others through violence. Other solutions must be found or we will be the shortest species to come and go on this planet.

I could have told you all the rotten strategies some other country's banks pulled it would have reinforced your belief that all debt is just plain awful. Not only did people lose their homes but the government bailed out the banks Be content that Canada has enough check and balances so as to prevent the public from getting taken for a ride too badly.

Last year of office Harper had balanced again. We have been adding a tonne since then of course. His earlier deficits were as a result of stimulus spending for the global recession which he brilliantly kept Canada having minimal effect.But leftoids tend to ignore that.
