What that has to do with the Lieberals' love of authoritarian regimes, and Justine getting spanked
by the Saudis for being a virtue signaling dimwit, as usual caring more about foreigners than Canadians,

I'm sure I have no idea.

But I'm sure you will enlighten me.
I want to know if you hate all socialism? If you like healthcare? You know because you complained about Pierre Trudeau who did not nearly hang with thugs like the right wing in the US did and still does. Also because Justine Trudeau's government stood up for human rights in Saudi Arabia and stood up for anti corruption in Pakistan. More human rights and less corruption will help stem terrorism in the years to come. And more people will be able to enjoy capitalism. More of the little people. De Soto did a study that proved corruption kills markets. Do you like capitalism?

OK, we get ti, you love your Commie lite, moving to full Commie. No problem.

Your deflection is showing.
Pierre is his knees to Castro was not needed, just like Justine's on his knees to China.

Dopey is sadly PM of Canada. Let's see him try to do that job, rather than pander to Saudi citizens in Saudi.

In Saudi Arabia women are second class to the men and the Prince was publicly rebuked by a Canadian government cabinet minister who is a woman who forgot that country customs must be respected if you want trade to flourish Christine Freeland must retweet her human rights issues statement. with the utmost respect to the Prince and this nightmare goes away..

A public apology with her head covered? Dressed in traditional Saudi dress?

I'm sorry, this is just hilarious.

Pierre hugged Fidel because all Trudeau's love the Commie strong men.
Pierre and Cuba, Justine and China.

And Pierre was friends with the Russians to get ideas on how to force more Socialism
down the throats of Canadians without them even realizing it.

But thank you for the laugh.

Liberals sure love their revisionist history don't they?

Trudeau made a glaring tactical error that's getting Canada hammered by Saudi Arabia

Justin Trudeau's government seems to have made a tactical error in trying to address human rights in Saudi Arabia.
By tweeting for everyone to see, rather than conducting traditional closed-door diplomacy, Canada has been hurt by Saudi Arabia's retaliation with nothing to show for it.
A former Canadian ambassador to Saudi Arabia asked how this tweet helped anyone in Saudi Arabia or in Canada - and found that it most likely did not.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is no stranger to human-rights advocacy and showy displays of allyship with marginalized communities.

But his government seems to have made a tactical error in trying to address human rights in Saudi Arabia.
On Friday, Canada's foreign-affairs Twitter handle urged the "immediate release" from imprisonment of the Saudi women's-rights activist Samar Badawi and others detained for similar activities in the kingdom.
Saudi Arabia issued a blistering response, quickly and sometimes harshly turning its state-run media to bash Canada.
In less than a week, Saudi Arabia then expelled its Canadian ambassador, froze all new investment, canceled all flights to Toronto, pulled thousands of students from Canadian institutions, barred its citizens from getting medical treatment in Canadian hospitals, and reportedly sold off all its Canadian assets.
Canada remained firm in its support for the activists, with both its foreign minister and Trudeau doubling down on the sentiment.
"Canadians have always expected our government to speak strongly, firmly, clearly, and politely about the need to respect human rights at home and around the world," Trudeau told journalists on Wednesday.
"We will continue to stand up for Canadian values and indeed for universal values and human rights at any occasion," he said.

I have a better idea, when she is in their country she respect their laws, when she is in Canada she operates under our laws and the Prince has to accept that Canadian women are not under Saudi law when they are in Canada. He is subject to Canadian law while in Canada so women have to be treated like that rather than the way he treats them at home.

However stupid Trudeau's actions may be, the swaggering, spoiled brat arrogance of the Saudi Prince, his bizarre overreaction and the general bloodthirstiness of Saudi Arabia does not bode well for the future. There are dark clouds gathering all over this planet and thugs are coming to power in unlikeliest of places, right now. It will be amazing if we get out of this without a full blown war raging all over the Middle East. It might be a hard one to contain, too.

Wow... this is a disastrous error.

Saudi Arabia is hammering Canada and all Trudeau is doing is cowering.

"The hard truth here is that the world is not waiting for Canada to preach to them or to criticize them," ~ David Chatterson: Former Canadian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

David nailed it. The world does not look to Canada for guidance and criticism. I think this has been a lesson to Trudeau. However he does not seem to know what to do. Canada has been stunned.

Justin's father hugged Castro close to try and lure him into capitalism in a way the US embargo did not. It worked in the end after Pierre Trudeau was gone. Pierre was good friends with one of the Russian Ambassadors to Ottawa as a way to promote understanding. He was reaching out a hand. No doubt his discussions with the ambassador were recorded by the Russians and Pierre had quite the intellect so some day maybe we will know how Trudeau tried to open their minds. Pierre was also very close to Nyerere of Tanzania who led the country to years of growth and peace after independance. Nyerere received the Awards:*Gandhi Peace Prize,*Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding. Again Trudeau bridged and engaged during the height of the cold war. Republicans were refusing Kruschev peace offers at the time. And for all those extra year the cold war went on millions died in proxy wars around the globe. So really I have a hard time with what you say about Justin. He learnt great things from his father. Democracies were rarer. Americans were busy supporting tyrants during the whole cold war. And deposed a few lawfully elected Prime Ministers. So you seem to be cherry picking. Pierre Trudeau did what middle powers do. They tried to make the world a bit better on their watch. Nice try though.

When I think of pet I'm reminded of him giving canucks the middle finger salute, just a little hint of lib arrogance. When justyn comes to mind I'm reminded of him authorizing us to pay a terrorist clan a few mil$ for the killing of a man who was not only a nato partner but also our neighbour. I'm ever amazed how any can praise morally defunct libs.

Think the existence of Reserves 150 years after they were 'conquered' has anything to do with the way the world looks at us when deciding how moral and righteous we are? If they get too uppity we would bomb them so they have no more freedom than the people in Gaza or any refugee camp in the world. Why not put all the new comers there for 6 months so they can see first hand what kind of mess they have gotten themselves into?

US is privately trying to mitigate the Saudi Canadian spat. I'm betting this making an example of Canada has more to do with a worldwide authoritarian push to push back against liberal countries human rights and anti-corruption agenda. Canadian Foreign Minister and refugee to Canada, Ahmed Hussen, gave a well received anti-corruption speech in Pakistan last week. He spoke of public service as sacred. He is a rockstar in some parts of the world. He is an example how how a far a smart hard working guy can go in a country with very little corruption like Canada. I bet you the Putin's and Saudis of the world are ready to make examples of others who threaten their power with liberal values. I doubt this is an isolated series of incidents. One thing for sure, Trump stepping America back from leadership on the world stage is heartbreaking and likely the most devastating policy amongst many. It used to be that trade was thought of to stop wars between countries and was, in an extra way, a force of good. Now the authoritarians are using it to amass more power at home. And life will not be good for the little people in these regimes as little to none of the benefits of trade will go to them.

The U.K. under Theresa May has been consumed by the task of completing the terms for Brexit and is loath to irritate the Saudis given the billions at stake in defense contracts and the potential for lucrative trade deals. May openly pitched London as a listing destination for Aramco, Saudi Arabia’s oil company, and gave Prince Mohammed a warm welcome in March during a high-profile visit that drew protests.

At Trump’s urging, Saudi Arabia has boosted oil production in recent months, limiting the impact on consumers of the president’s decision to reimpose sanctions on Iran. Trump criticized OPEC on Twitter after the London crude price hit a three-year high of more than $80 a barrel in May. The commodity has since retreated to around $72 a barrel.

Saudi Arabia is also seen as the linchpin to the president’s proposal to create a new security alliance in the Middle East -- a so-called Arab NATO -- intended to limit Iranian influence in the region.

Regardless of motivation, the relative U.S. silence on the issue has been noticed in Ottawa. The American response is “a glimpse of what the world looks like without the U.S. advocating for human rights,” Roland Paris, a University of Ottawa professor and former Trudeau foreign policy adviser, said in an interview.

“Right now there is very little solidarity," he added.

Of course no elected official can be seen to be anti anti-corruption (they can't be seen as advocating for corruption). That would be the kiss of death in Pakistan or russia. So they can't push back on that publicly. But human rights seems easy to push back on. At least in this case. Corruption will be protected and never mentioned by name by those that do it.
Looks like the world has changed and our close allies forgot to tell Canada things are different. Certainly the europeans have chilled after Putin's aggression where Trump is like a labrador retriever with him. Not how it used to be. Diplomacy is being redone everywhere. Strongman states and the corrupt are pushing back and testing the world's boundaries. I wonder if they are all calling each other. Thanks to the US for stepping away from world leaderdership.

Susan Rice: President Trump, the Autocrats’ Best Friend

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/09/opinion/susan-rice-saudi-canada-trump.html

The United States’ stance reflects the carte blanche we have given the 32-year-old Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, to act with impunity on a wide range of issues. The crown prince has been feted and fawned over from Wall Street to Hollywood, where his acolytes hail his*economic diversification and social reforms, including granting women the right to drive and young people the freedom to attend selected foreign movies and concerts.

While these steps are welcome, they mask a darker set of domestic and foreign policies that the crown prince is pursuing to the detriment of American interests. He has harshly cracked down on activists, imprisoned royal family members and businessmen*without due process on corruption charges*and briefly held hostage the prime minister of Lebanon. Alongside the United Arab Emirates, the crown prince has*prosecuted a relentless war*against the Iranian-backed Houthi in Yemen, where he has used American logistical support and weapons, some provided by the Obama administration, to bomb civilians indiscriminately, reportedly*collaborated*when convenient with Al Qaeda fighters, and constrained the delivery of desperately needed assistance.

For more than a year, Saudi Arabia has persisted in blockading neighboring Qatar and is now digging a canal to turn it into an island, despite the presence of 10,000 American troops, to punish Qatar for allegedly supporting terrorism and its relationship with Iran. Most dangerously, the crown prince and his regional allies urged the Trump administration to withdraw from the Iranian nuclear deal and reimpose sanctions, while stoking potential conflict with Iran.

The United States is following, not leading, in our newly unconditional partnership with Saudi Arabia. We consistently acquiesce in the crown prince’s actions, however impulsive or harmful. For reasons that remain unclear, President Trump has signaled to the crown prince (who is likely to lead the kingdom for decades) that America is at his service.

Saudis are terrorists. however in capitalism the world powers are all subservient to capital, and cordial relations with privileged oil barons means profit. Trudeau is not such a punk as most rat-wingers thought.

How things have changed.....

SA is controlling the US

Russia is "controlling" the US.

Overall it is coming down to every nation for itself.

The US is allover the place.....with no real consistant policy for anything now. and behaving like some one gone mad.

It seems that there were two precipitating factors:

The Brexit thing. ( it had a destabilizing effect)

the election of the mad-man trump in the US and all the "normal " relationships have been altered. and strained. Meanwhile dictators and autocrats have been supported by the US ...... allowing them to emerge in influence.

It is concerning. as a new hierarchy is evolving. If a tweet has that much influence.........then the world is in real trouble. What is next?? WAR by Twitter??? How low can society get??
