TPP nations welcome Trump's interest in joining deal, but renegotiation? Forget about it
Members of an 11-nation Asia-Pacific trade pact said Friday they opposed any renegotiation of the deal to accommodate the U.S. should it decide to rejoin at a later date.
Ministers from Japan, Australia and Malaysia welcomed President Donald Trump directing officials to explore returning to the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a pact he withdrew from shortly after coming to office. But they also cautioned against making any significant changes.
“We welcome the U.S. coming back to the table but I don’t see any wholesale appetite for any material re-negotiation of the TPP-11,” Australia Trade Minister Steven Ciobo said Friday.

Some of the tariffs have to do with quality.
Some like on solar panels are antidumping tarrifs.
Which do want lifted?
I heard last night that the other signatories have said he is welcome to join but that they will not be opening any new negotiations. It'll be interesting to see how receptive the TPP signatories will be to the Americans after they've started a trade war with China that they may very well lose.
All of them. If they want to subsidize their solar panels, we should thank them for it.
So you want crappy components that kill in consumer goods and Canadian panel makers to go under.
Got it.

What Canadian panel makers?
It's a red herring. Trump often sais things that he thinks people want to hear. And then proceeds to do the opposite; marching to his own inner drummer.
TPP is a disaster. Along with exiting the Paris Accord it was Trump's most brilliant move to remove America from this trap of multilateral free trade agreements which have destroyed the U.S. and Canadian economies.
Reinserting America into the clutches of traders and financiers who are the only ones who benefit from Free Trade and Monetarism would unravel the integrity of his entire platform. It would be the death knell of his administration.
It's not going to happen. And TPP will disintegrate from its own catastrophic contradictions, usury and exploitation.
Are they manufacturing panels or installing them?
Are they manufacturing panels or installing them?
Even if they manufacture them, why would Canada want to waste its resources manufacturing panels that China is willing to have its own taxpayers subsidize for the Canadian consumer? We could always manufacture something else.

Besides serving as a leading manufacturer of solar PV modules and provider of solar energy solutions, Canadian Solar has a geographically diversified pipeline of utility-scale power projects. With the company’s recent acquisition of Recurrent Energy, Canadian Solar’s total project pipeline is now 11 GW, including an increase of the late-stage project pipeline to over 1.6 GW. With state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Canada, China and Vietnam, Canadian Solar employs over12,000 workers worldwide. This translates into more than 26 GW of panel shipments, or over 70 million PV modules, in the past 17 years. Together with Recurrent Energy, Canadian Solar is ushering the way into a new era of clean, competitive, mainstream power.
Yeah - we could keep on sending China our cheap raw materials and China could send us its expensive manufactured product in return.

It will only be a matter of time before Trump reverses all of his policies, while at the same time claiming that is what he intended all the time.
ah, yes. The double reverse reverse psycho out. brilliant. If'n you're dealing with 5 yrs olds and candy.
You know, there was a world wide wet slapping sound when he made mention of maybe you know, getting back into the TPP. Ladies and Gentleman: The President of the USA. What a flounder.
