Kim Campbell calls sleeveless dresses 'demeaning' for TV broadcasters

Kim Campbell is admonishing female news anchors who wear sleeveless dresses on the air, calling the bare-armed attire "demeaning."

The former prime minister tweeted her displeasure, saying "bare arms undermine credibility and gravitas."

She faced swift criticism online, with one tweeter pointing out that former U.S. first lady Michelle Obama frequently wore sleeveless dresses.

Campbell replied that she was referring specifically to female broadcasters.

She cited as support an essay by U.S. speaking coach Nick Morgan, who asserts in a blog post that "if you show up in front of us with skin exposed, we're going to think about your body."

He also takes issue with men who wear an "expensive, cool-looking casual T-shirt" for an important speech.

"I am struck by how many women on television news wear sleeveless dresses — often when sitting with suited men," Campbell tweeted on her verified account Tuesday morning.

What's with you and Das watching the view?

Kim Campbell is a conservative......could have fooled me.

Conservatives are secretly the worst version of the people they profess to hate.

Just look at Das.

Pah. This is the best you got to distract from the Wreck from Quebec? The Dope of the Slopes?
This "story" pales in comparison to Mr. "Feminist" rejecting Harder for the Chair of the Status of Women Committee because SHE dared to think differently than a man. Yep, Trudeau is quite the feminist. And a firm believer in democracy too.

Funny world eh? Conservatives "loving political correctness" while neo-Libtards spit in its eye, break laws and engage in corporate AND union cronyism.

Besides, Campbell has said much more offensive things than that. She actually managed to directly offend millions of Canadians with a single comment about hockey, underwear and beer.

ANALYSIS: Don’t tell me what to wear

It’s really easy. Don’t tell a woman what to wear. Not ever.

Some women feel confident in a business suit while others feel powerful in button-downs. It’s all about choice. You would think Canada’s first female prime minister Kim Campbell would understand that. Campbell broke new ground in 1993 leading this country but 25 years later, she seems to have lost touch with groundbreaking women in a single tweet.

Her tweet, posted Tuesday morning, reads: “I am struck by how many women on television news wear sleeveless dresses — often when sitting with suited men. I have always felt it was demeaning to the women and this suggests that I am right. Bare arms undermine credibility and gravitas!”

She posted it along with a link to an article about public speaking wardrobe tips written by a man who bills himself as one of America’s top communication theorists and coaches. His advice? If you wear a sleeveless dress, “it means you’re going to look less brilliant than if you covered your arms.”

So Campbell took down the Tweet in question.

The old prude couldn't take the blowback. That's the problem with social media sites that have a large audience. When you get drunk and post something stupid, you never hear the end of it.

If she wasn't drunk and actually meant what she wrote, then that makes her a sexist old fossil.
