LONDON — Dolores O’Riordan, lead singer of Irish band The Cranberries, has died. She was 46.
Publicist Lindsey Holmes says O’Riordan died suddenly Monday in London, where she was recording. The cause of death wasn’t immediately available.
Holmes says the singer’s family is “devastated” by the news.
“No further details are available at this time,” the statement reads. “Family members are devastated to hear the breaking news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”
The Limerick band became international stars in the 1990s with hits including “Zombie” and “Linger.”
In December, O’Riordan posted on The Cranberries’ social media pages that she had recently performed with the group.

Loved the lyrical Irish mysticism in the Cranberries music in songs like Dreams.. which Dolores' voice set off perfectly. So young. The name Dolores is a derivative of Our Lady of Sorrows from her devout Catholic parents. Spent her summers in a log cabin in the Ontario wilderness as i remember. It's all very sad. RiP.

She had talent but burned out early-after 'unretiring' her performances were a joke in minor league venues like casinos and cruise ships.

Sorry for embarrassing you yet again Pete but it's so easy I just can't help myself.

Now, if you aren't a fan of her or the band you should run along.

I actually predicted more occurrences like this on an old thread in this forum.

The Celebrity/ Rock Star life is usually one of hard living...takes it's toll on the body. I think we'll be seeing even more of our Pop Culture figures dropping like flies around middle age in the months and years to come.

She could sing?

You couldn't put a voice like Celine Dion or Adele with perfect pitch, tone and range onto a Cranberry tune like Linger, Zombie or Dreams. Her voice reminds me of the woman's voice The Grateful Dead brought into songs like Scarlet Begonias (with Donna Godchaux - mid 70s). It's like a wailing succubus emanating from the mists but very effective in creating an atmosphere.

Although she was deeply depressed over the death of her father and her divorce.. and suffered from bipolar disorder.. reports are the death is not suspicious and could have been from natural causes.

Dolores O’ Riordan sounded upbeat in a phone message she left for a friend hours before her death.
Just hours before her sudden passing in London on Monday, The Cranberries’ frontwoman’s friend Dan Waite, international managing director of Eleven Seven Music, who used to manage the Irish musician, received a voicemail from her on his phone.
Waite shared in a statement to WENN that the Linger songstress sounded “full of life” the day before a studio session with hard rock band, Bad Wolves.
“Dolores left me a voice message just after midnight last night stating how much she loved Bad Wolves’ version of Zombie; she was looking forward to seeing me in the studio and recording vocals,” he wrote. “She sounded full of life, was joking and excited to see me and and my wife this week.
“The news of her passing is devastating and my thoughts are with Don her ex-husband, her children, and her mother,” he added.
The 46-year-old singer was set to record her vocals the next day for the up-and-coming Los Angeles group’s cover of The Cranberries’ 1994 hit, Zombie.
“Zombie is an incredibly personal song… and we always felt the rawness and honesty she projected on stage and in her recordings was something to which all bands should aspire to… When we heard she wanted to sing on our version, it was the greatest compliment a (band) could receive,” Bad Wolves singer Tommy Vext said in a statement.
Dolores connected with the group after hearing their version of the track via her former management company, who now look after the Los Angeles rock group, and offered to add her own vocals.
Eleven Seven Music CEO Allen Kovac added, “My heart goes out to her children, I hope they can find some peace despite this tragic event.”

The Cranberries frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan was reportedly found dead in the bathroom of her hotel suite.
News of the Linger singer’s sudden passing at the age of just 46 on Monday shocked the music world.
According to Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper, the rocker was found dead by staff in the bathroom of her room at the Hilton on Park Lane hotel in London.
“They found her in the bathroom,” a member of staff told the newspaper. “But the staff that found her have not said anything more, so we don’t know if it’s suicide or what.”
Another staff member said shocked cleaners discovered her body after entering her room on the assumption she had left.
“The people who found her said they found her in the toilet,” the hotel worker explained. “I think it was the cleaners who had gone in there because there was no activity around the hallway or from the room. They didn’t say how they found her, this has been kept private.”
On Tuesday, a police spokeswoman confirmed officers were not treating her death as suspicious and the case has now been passed on to a coroner.
Dolores had been in London for a recording session with the band Bad Wolves, where she was to sing on a new cover version of The Cranberries’ 1994 hit Zombie.
Tributes to the singer have poured in since her death, with former The Smiths bassist Andy Rourke the latest to remember Dolores.
Andy, who played with her in the group D.A.R.K., wrote on Twitter: “I am heartbroken by the unexpected passing of Dolores. I’ve enjoyed the years spent together and (I was) privileged to call her a close friend. It was a bonus to work with her and witness her breathtaking & unique talent, I will miss her terribly.”

Dolores O’Riordan was working on new tracks for The Cranberries just before her death.
The Irish singer was found dead at the age of just 46 in a London hotel room on Monday. Police officers have since confirmed they are not treating her death as suspicious.
Her bandmate Noel Hogan, who co-wrote many of The Cranberries’ biggest hits with O’Riordan, has penned a moving tribute to his late friend in Rolling Stone magazine, in which the guitarist revealed she had sent him new music hours before she passed away.
“I spoke to Dolores last Friday and she was great,” he wrote. “We spoke about getting back to work – recording and new tracks we were working on. She sent some of those tracks to me by email on Sunday morning.”
The Cranberries released their first album in five years in February last year, but were forced to cancel touring plans as O’Riordan was suffering from back problems.
Revealing the band had planned to hit the road again in March, Horgan added: “We were about to start the next album in the coming months – along with some shows we were looking at. We had hoped the first of these would have been this March.”
Concluding his moving tribute, the musician wrote: “Dolores’ legacy will be her music. She was so passionate about it. There are songs I hear today that we wrote over 20 years ago, and I see and hear people singing along with them. There are only a few artists who get to have maybe one song they are remembered by. Dolores has so many. It’s a great legacy.”
When she died, O’Riordan was in London to record a new version of her band’s 1994 hit Zombie with the metal band Bad Wolves and was described as sounding “full of life” by her friend, music label boss Dan Waite, who received a voice message from her just before she passed away.
Sales of the band’s music have surged in the wake of her death, with their tracks soaring up streaming and download charts around the world.

LONDON — A British coroner is awaiting the results of tests to determine what killed The Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan.
O’Riordan died Monday in London at 46.
An inquest into the singer’s death opened Friday at Westminster Coroner’s Court. Coroner’s officer Stephen Earl said O’Riordan was found unresponsive in her hotel room and was declared dead at the scene by ambulance workers.
He said a post-mortem examination has been conducted “and the court is awaiting the results of various tests that have been commissioned.”
Police say they don’t consider the death suspicious, meaning they have found no sign of foul play.
The Cranberries formed in the Irish city of Limerick at the end of the 1980s and had international hits in the ’90s with songs including “Dream,” “Linger” and “Zombie.”
