Campus LGBT group: Wilfrid Laurier isn’t going far enough to silence ‘climate of transphobia’

Though Wilfrid Laurier University has apologized to Lindsay Shepherd, the university’s Rainbow Centre appears to be endorsing the disciplinary action originally taken against the teaching assistant, and suggesting the school isn’t doing enough to combat “profound violence” against transgender people.

“In the face of recent media attention, we feel it is our responsibility to speak out against the climate of transphobia that is being fostered at Laurier,” reads a statement released Tuesday by the Wilfrid Laurier University Rainbow Centre, a service within the school’s diversity and equity office that offers support to queer and trans students.

"The Rainbow Centre, by contrast, accused Wilfrid Laurier University of “silence” on the issue of transphobia.

“The discourse of freedom of speech, is being used to cover over the underlying reality of transphobia that is so deeply ingrained in our contemporary political context,” reads the Rainbow Centre’s statement.

Articles and columns written in support of Shepherd, meanwhile, were said to be “defending and perpetuating transphobic beliefs and attitudes.”

The statement does not directly name Shepherd or the professors who met with her, claiming that “confidentiality” makes the Rainbow Centre “unable to comment directly.” (Shepherd had already chosen to name herself in the media.)

Nevertheless, the statement suggests that the debate of gendered pronouns is “disallowable speech” that constitutes “a form of epistemic violence that dehumanizes trans people by denying the validity of trans experience.”

The term “epistemic violence,” used in this context, roughly translates to “knowledge violence.”

Shepherd responded Tuesday with a Tweet criticizing the Rainbow Centre for equating transgender issues with silencing seminar debate.

“Why is (The Rainbow Centre) suggesting that being trans and supporting academic freedom are mutually exclusive?” she wrote.

Campus LGBT group: Wilfrid Laurier

Good question, Lindsay.............but don't hold your breath waiting for an answer considering that anything you say is now branded by the inelegantly invented term disallowable speech and could well lead to epistemic violence thus resulting in yet even more profound violence. Or so the Rainbow people on campus would have you and other intelligent Canadians believe.

The statement below is a perfect example of how they are more than willing to attack anyone who disagrees with their virulent dogma.

“The discourse of freedom of speech, is being used to cover over the underlying reality of transphobia that is so deeply ingrained in our contemporary political context,” reads the Rainbow Centre’s statement."

Sure it is. Some people really really really need to get a life.

That's a little better. Still too long and boring but an improvement

Here is an article exposing the corrupt and anti western philosophy being taught to our kids under the pretense of education by radical lefties and good union Hogs. With some comments of my own in brackets):

Social justice gone mad at Ryerson?

Either it’s a case of social justice warriors (SJW) gone mad or they’re just politically-correct party poopers.

But if the leftist radicals who now run the Ryerson Students Union (RSU) had their way, none of the students who come under their influence would be celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday Saturday.

According to a June 26 Facebook posting — which has received hundreds of mostly critical comments — the RSU suggests all full-time undergraduate and graduate Ryerson students not celebrate Canada 150 because it only represents “150 years of colonization” after our land “was stolen from indigenous people.”

The posting claims that all the hype around Canada Day this year is to make the day “seem like a holiday” as opposed to a “genocide” and the Canadian legacy of “colonization.” Yes you read that right — a “genocide.”

Whoever wrote the social media post has a little trouble with history, however, claiming 2017 only marks 150 years since the “Canadian Federation Act” was signed. It was the British North America Act (BNA Act) — now known as the Constitution Act, 1867 — that created this wonderful dominion we call Canada.

Not so for Ryerson’s SJW party poopers. “Please be critical of what you are celebrating,” they write. “Or please don’t celebrate at all.”

(Of course if these leftie hypocrites were so concerned about the “genocide” of natives they would IMMEDIATELY get on the first plane out of here and leave the country to go back to virtually EMPTY forest! But if all the non natives left then Who would supply the welfare and drugs and alcohol to natives? And would natives be happy going back to a life style that was certainly free of various white lifestyle restrictions but natives DIED around age 40 just as whites did!)

(Would our modern natives wish to go back to the old ways where grand parents where left behind in a clearing when food ran short- while the rest of the tribe went off in search of better hunting? Or would modern natives wish to get into an old folks home when they grow old and grey? Lets ask natives if they wish to chose between the old ways and their tv and central heating and flush toilets and video games? Those who portray the `old days` as an always rosy time ignore the frostbite, frequent hunger when wolves and bears dug into food stocks stashed under a pile of rocks not quite deep enough to keep out predators. Natives were nomads because they were FORCED to constantly chase their food.)

(Should we remind natives that hunting buffalo on a horse stolen from white people and using muskets bought from whites is a more fun and much easier way to hunt than the OLD way- ON FOOT with bows and arrows and spears! Get close enough to put a spear into a Buffalo and you are also close enough to be TRAMPLED as well! And a Buffalo with several stone tipped arrows in its guts may be crippled but that does NOT mean its helpless- hence the native life span that was virtually the same for both whites and natives in the old days!)

(Native cry babies and their loonie leftist supporters want to have their cake and eat it too- by demanding that whites supply natives with whatever elements of white culture they like and spitting on those other aspects- like getting an education and doing some useful job and living in a city where there actually IS work- and with natives actually paying the bills instead of using white tax money for everything while whining about the white anger over the cost of keeping drugged up, drunken, unemployed natives as `pets`!)

Their call to arms is accompanied by an upside down Canada 150 flag over the words “Colonialism 150” and an invitation to join the union-backed Unsettling Canada activities/protests, a national day of action to support indigenous self-determination over their lands, territories and resources.

Efforts to reach the entire RSU executive — in particular president Susanne Nyaga — Friday were unsuccessful.

However, in an April interview in Ryerson’s Eyeopener, Nyaga talked about several of her social justice roles, including co-chair of the Social Work Students’ Union, the president of United Black Students at Ryerson (UBSR) and core organizer of the Ryerson Feminist Collective- which she says addresses issues of misogyny from an intersectional framework.

(OH great- that`s quite a list of reverse racist hate groups there for Nyaga to support! One has to wonder when she finds the time to study? But then as co-chair of the social work union it seems unlikely she is doing a lot of cramming for physics and calculus? In other words she has a starring role in one of the study disciplines that are regarded as CORRUPTED by many main stream Cdns!)

That said, those SJWs sure know how to take the life out of a good party, not to mention a celebration of our Canadian rights and freedoms.

I have no issue with raising the plight of Aboriginal Peoples across Canada, but last I looked, it is not the role of the student-funded RSU to hijack the narrative of what is supposed to be a celebration.

Come to think of it, if the SJWs on the executive of the RSU want to give up their homes and their campus office space — all of which are occupying sacred indigenous land — I know a lawyer friend who’d be happy to negotiate the deal.

Marshall Darbyshire, the incoming president of Students for Free Speech (SSFS) at Ryerson, said he feels it’s an “attempt to derail” their national identity and “terribly unpatriotic.”

“They’re trying to prove how virtuous they are at the expense of the entire student body,” the second-year political science student said Friday. “It’s guilting the student body into not celebrating.”

(I am going to suggest that Nyaga and her pals are on the hunt for grant money! And NO need to aks what they will spend the money on! Its GUILT MONEY they are trying to claim- with NO connection to logic or reality!)

Darbyshire said this kind of radicalism started about a month ago when the new executive came in, including two members he considers to be radical leftists.

He is adamant that a student union should be apolitical and advocate for every single student.

One of the many Unsettle Canada Day protests is set for a Spadina House celebration where St. Paul’s MP and Indigenous Minister Carolyn Bennett is scheduled to be present.

Canada day doesn't celebrate genocide....pffft.....Thanksgiving does.
I had to laugh while watching the news recently-there was our prime minister Justin Trudope-the Boy with nice hair for brains being followed by reporters with cameras- visiting a native reserve. He was engaged in talk with a band councillor who was pressing him on when the reserve might get the necessary equipment to produce clean drinking water after having had to boil their water for so many decades. And Our Boy actually stuttered for a LONG moment and lamely promised “soon”.

Our Boy would commit to nothing but was full of concern over native plight. And I am laughing at him because I KNOW he is full of s++t -thanks to such things as the news report set out below. Natives are just another voting block to be exploited for the glory of LIE-beral party!

The news article set out below, along with some comments of my own in brackets illustrates the TRUE level of concern LIE-berals have for natives! Here is the news report-with some comments of my own in brackets)::

Half of aboriginal families on reserve could miss new federal child benefit

Jordan Press, THE CANADIAN PRESS. First posted: Tuesday, July 19, 2016 02:33 PM EDT | Updated: Tuesday, July 19, 2016 05:13 PM EDT

Families, Children and Social Development Minister Jean-Yves Duclos responds to a question during question period in the House of Commons on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Monday, May 16, 2016. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Sean Kilpatrick

OTTAWA -- Half of the country's aboriginal families living on reserve could miss out on the federal government's new child benefit aimed at raising hundreds of thousands of Canadians out of poverty.

Tax returns are the basis for calculating how much a family receives under the new benefit and internal government estimates peg the tax filing rate on reserves at about 50 per cent.

(So many FUN questions related to that tax filing statistic. Such as did LIE-berals not notice that native living on reserves DON’T PAY income tax-so why and how would they have a tax form to begin with? Or-how many natives are either un-employed or are working at jobs that are illegal-such as smuggling cigarettes, guns, booze, drugs etc. If they file a tax, return it opens up a can of worms re where their money came from? And the money they get from their various illegal enterprises is much more than the new child benefit so no incentive to fil in a T-4 and claim the new credit!)

That means millions intended to help indigenous children could end up left in the federal treasury.

(Yeah, thats a LIE-beral style promise-a nice package with a bright bow on top-and NOTHING but s++t inside! LIE-berals know all that Conservatives do about native bands. Our leaders know about housing money diverted by New Brunswick band to pay for a Carribean cruise for tribe members. They know about housing money wasted because Cree builders constructed houses in a flood zone and then bitched that Ottawa had not given them adequate money to build `proper` homes. They know about money ear-marked for drinking water and sewage treatment plants that was diverted to send a hockey team to California-with side trips to a casino and fancy restaurants etc-while the water plants fell to pieces and residents had raw sewage coming out of their taps at home on the reserve. They know about insane salaries for band chiefs such as the FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS PER YEAR paid to a band chief leading a tribe of less than 500 people! And then there is record setting Atiwapiskat band chief Teresa Spence who led her merry band in BLOWING ONE HUNDRED FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS in a few years-WITHOUT producing a SINGLE receipt to show where the money went!)

(Conservatives took a hard line approach to native crap-requiring all bands to post their spending online-they had to produce honest books and proper receipts or be cut off govt funding. Conservatives were pushing for responsible govt and the sensible use of tax dollars. LIE-berals think this demand for responsible action is racist and have now excused bands from all those `silly` Conservative demands!)

(But we are dealing with LIE-berals here and they don’t have money to burn-they NEED to buy civil service HOG votes and rich gravy is required for that so LIE-berals are simply going to stutter a bit as Our Boy did and offer vague platitudes and change the subject as quickly as possible when it comes to reserve `needs` for more govt money!)

(And I have to ask: “which approach is more honest-and BETTER for the entire country? There is the Conservative way that pushes band leaders to be more accountable to their constituents and responsible to Cdn tax payers-an approach that would see the lives of ordinary reserve inhabitants improved with better housing and clean water and an end to shameless corruption. Or the LIE-beral way that leaves reserve finances in the hands of wasteful, extravagant and selfish leaders who do very well for themselves while their people do without fresh water and decent housing-and Cdn tax payers get stuck with idiot bills? LIE-beral scheming is so Machiavellian that they can boast of their new child credit even though most native families will be worse off under the LIE-beral regime than the Conservative version since the LIE-beral credit will be harder to get unless a tax form is filed! And its not as if natives-few of whom graduated from high school can fill the forms themselves and H-R Block does NOT have offices in blighted places like Kashetchewan or Atiwapiskat! )

Families Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said Tuesday that the government is trying to raise awareness of the benefit in indigenous communities.

"They have larger family sizes -- so more children -- and second, they live in more difficult circumstances -- most of them, not all of them of course -- but on average, indigenous families struggle more to meet the needs of their children," he said.

(And I have to say: “right-its typical LIE-beral crap NOT to bother making people be responsible for the govt money they are already getting. LIE-berals will Not be pushing for honest accounting on reserves because it might lose them votes! Instead they will leave natives wallowing in misery and looking at that bright LIE-beral gift of meaningless new child credits-shipped to reserves in an EMPTY box!)

===========================================================

"For those two reasons, the (benefit) would be -- will be -- making...a very important impact in their lives."

Census statistics now five years old suggest that there are about 44,000 children living in poverty on reserves -- a number that departmental officials believe has only increased in the intervening years.

The government defines who is living in poverty by using an income threshold. On reserves, families who meet that criteria are on average about $9,000 under the cut-off, while elsewhere families are $5,200 under.

The new non-taxable, income-tested child benefit rolls out Wednesday with the average family receiving about $2,300 under a program that was a cornerstone of the Liberals' campaign platform.

The Liberals predict the benefit will cut the child poverty rate in Canada to 6.7 per cent from 11.2 per cent by this time next year once families feel the full effect.

Federal officials estimate almost 300,000 children and 200,000 adults will see their family income rise to above the low-income cut off as a result.

The single benefit replaces what Duclos called a more complicated system that required parents to apply for the Canada child tax benefit and the national child benefit supplement, and taxed the monthly universal child care benefit payments.

The Finance Department said 3.3 million out of 3.8 million Canadian families will receive more under the new program, based on income tax and benefit data.

But Conservative critic Karen Vecchio said some families may find they receive less, including workers who lost their jobs in the last few months, which won't be reflected in their 2015 income tax returns.

"A number of people have lost their jobs and aren't finding that assistance that they need and they (the Liberals) are going to have to recognize the child benefit is not going to be there to replace their employment income," Vecchio said in a recent interview.

She said child benefits should be seen as the missing link in a larger push to help those less fortunate, including efforts to spur more private sector job creation.

The government will be able to see in the short-term whether its poverty reduction calculations are accurate, but Duclos said there are longer term outcomes the government plans to monitor to determine success.

They include whether the new benefit allows for more children to access post-secondary education and land jobs, as well as whether their parents are more easily able to enter the workforce.

"We want to see whether over time -- as we expect it will happen, with greater equality, greater inclusion -- the various labour market outcomes for our younger citizens will be more equal, so children and families will have greater equality of opportunity when it comes to being fully included in our society," Duclos said.

Here are three things to know about the new program:

1) If you already receive the universal child care benefit, or the child tax benefit, you don't need to apply for the new one. Your information is already on file and all you have to do is file your 2015 tax return. Payments will be made by direct deposit if you're signed up for it, or by cheque if that is how you received the universal child care benefit around the 20th of each month.

2) The new child benefit won't count as income, meaning it won't count against your tax return next year and be taxed like the previous universal child care benefit. Provinces have also said they won't count the new money when calculating income-tested benefits like rent and child care supplements.

3) How much you receive is based on two things: the number of children under age 18 in your household and your net family income. Families with a net income of less than $30,000 receive the full benefit of $533 per month for a child under six and $450 per month for children six to 17. Benefit levels drop as income rises. Most families, on average, will receive about $191 per month. An extra $227 per month is added for a child who qualifies for a disability payment.

I would have pulled my pants down and shit on the floor to show them what I really think of their retarded ideology and world views.

Rex sold his soul to the devil.

That's quite the statement, Cliffy. How about you back it up by explaining to me exactly why you feel justified in slandering him.

I'm glad that when I came back here I immediately read this idiocy.

Only on a forum like this can the juvenile posturing get to a point where a poster demands proof that someone sold his soul to the devil.

I'll RUN if Cliffy produces Rex Murphy's contract with the devil.

:)

"Do you reject Satan?"
"I do"
"... and all his works? "
"I do"
"... including his contract with Canadian columnist and TV curmudgeon Rex Murphy?"

No you stay!

I'm very concerned about Rex Murphy being slandered though. If Cliffy doesn't produce the contract, Rex Murphy should sue.

Corduroy is a progressive.

I'm a regressive. :)

She is not an idiot, however.

I'm a socialist. Surely that's a dirtier word for you. ;)

I like Rex.

He proves anti-CBCers wrong everyday.

He's our Shep Smith.

Or we could talk about the native "sh+t house to illustrate how badly LIE-berals are handling native affairs:

Did anybody happen to see the evening news flash of early June/2017? The one about the native reserve house full of sewage? The BRIEF report was produced by LIE-beral loving news media dedicated to political correctness and ignored more questions than it answered!

First- there were the sad images of a bungalow built on concrete piles in the style common in the north where a house with full basement is not suitable either due to bed rock near the surface or because of issues with permafrost- a full basement can hold in heat and cause the house to literally sink into the rapidly thawing grown! Hence the concrete piles for foundation.

But a house on piles like that has a flaw- the plumbing MUST be very carefully insulated or it WILL freeze since the crawl space under the house is not heated nor insulated! And some pipes must pass through this freezing zone to reach the septic tank system. And frozen pipes are more likely if the family is poor and thus scrimping on heating costs- the lower the temperature in the house- the less heat leaks from the house to keep pipes under the floor from freezing.

News media tells us there are 10 people living in a rather crowded 3 bedroom bungalow and such a crowd might be more than the septic system can handle? So did the sewage pipe either simply froze and ruptured or maybe it clogged up and then froze and ruptured. In any case the pipe broke and raw sewage began leaking and pooling in a disgusting mess UNDER the house.

The residents say it was not too bad till the spring- at which point the mess thawed fully and began to ferment with maggots swarming everywhere and the reek becoming an eye watering horror. The band council was approached for help but none was forthcoming for some reason?

A white business man heard of the family plight and offered to DONATE a new prefab house but things are stalled for reasons the media do not want to discuss. Both business man and band council blame each other for the lack of progress on a new house. Perhaps the businessman wants the band to pay for shipping since he has stepped up and donated the house? And maybe the band figures the house should be shipped for free? WE don’t know and LIE-beral minded news medai seems to think such questions are NOT important?

And there are other questions too- such as why the family did not stop flushing the toilet immediately after the pipe broke? AS a guy who has lived in exactly this sort of house I know that a white guy will not continue using a toilet that is poisoning his house and air! The reserve is out in the forest and the first thing a white guy would do is do `it` in the forest like the bears- or at least go find a bucket that can be used in the heated bathroom and DUMPED in the forest! As for bathing- there is a community centre and why not shower there for a while instead of adding to the cess pool under the house? Sensible people who don’t like living over a foul sewage lagoon generally find ways to avoid adding to the pool daily! But natives are not like white people- they apparently are comfortable just to keep mindlessly adding to the filth and whining because no white people will help them!

And now that warm weather is here, no plumber wants to go wading through all that filth to fix a broken pipe! And there is the value of the bucket method- the swamp under the house will dry out of not added to daily and it will become possible to get under and do repairs without losing your lunch! A plumber might want to put down plastic sheeting to avoid soft and squishy areas but it IS possible to do the repairs without getting mired in filth! And of course white people would not simply abandon a house because it has frozen and ruptured pipes. A house is costly and not to be simply written off on a whim! Not before serious repair efforts are made!

The great majority of houses on a typical reserve are built BY the local people after they have been through govt training programs. They KNOW how to fix and repair the house- if only somebody would give them some motivation! But gee, brand new pipes are so much more pleasant to work with than dirty old ruptured ones so its much better to whine that whites are bigots forcing natives to live in sub standard housing than to take any logical action!

I'm a socialist. Surely that's a dirtier word for you. ;)

You're also a lesbian, an atheist, a slut, and a bitch.

Allow me to clarify. Some time back, I came to the conclusion that the average North American of a certain age hasn't the faintest clue what socialism is, what communism is, what atheism is, or what multiculturalism is. They've been indoctrinated from earliest childhood to see all these words as synonyms for "bad." Just as they've been indoctrinated to see "democracy," "capitalism," "liberty," "freedom," and "Christian" as synonyms for "good," with an equal lack of clues as to what the terms actually mean.

As they got into their delayed adolescences, they added "lesbian," "faggot," "slut," and "bitch" to the list of synonyms for "bad," again without any clear understanding of the definitions of the term, except that "lesbian," "slut," and "bitch" apply to women.

So, congratulations! you're all them bad things. And we'll ignore the fact that "lesbian" and "slut" are pretty much mutually exclusive.
