Ontario min wage was about $1.25 an hour around 1970. So move the decimal one place and that's about what it is today.

Average house price in Toronto in 1970 was about $30,000 - move the decimal one place and you have $300,000 so toronto homes prices have far out paced min wage.

We don't get to vote on the "done in" part. These days, that is expected no matter who wins.

Gov't should NEVER have gotten into setting wages! Let the people and the market place decide what it should be. People who pay crappy wages will get crappy employees.

When times are good this is true. Now however we have provincial governments that are actively trying to kill all industry. And that is where the good jobs are, not selling popcorn to tourists for 3 months of the year.

people who pay crappy wages are often training grounds for workers that have never had a job before. in this sense, there should be a tax levied to the higher paying companies to offset this extra workplace training costs.

Yeah, especially people who work for the gov't, they should get no pay and no pensions.

Even with a minimum wage that still applies. If you’re only willing to pay the bare minimum you won’t get very good people. At least not for long, the really good ones will leave as soon as something better comes along even if it’s only say $1/hour more.

so $15 is a living wage? can i hold you to that? you are not going to take even more once you get there?

Depends on where you live. Here in Ottawa it isn’t, in my hometown of Timmins it would be,

Inflation makes debt appear smaller.

Which is working out well for me and my student loan payments,

There's no doubt $15 is a living wage...................all depends on what style of living you are looking for! :)

Minimum wage is OK for a person with no knowledge and no skills but I think a person of average ability should be worth a raise after one or two months at the most!

What the minimum wage is, is irrelevant. Just the fact it's the minimum will perpetuate the problem. Instead of having a problem buying bread at $2 a loaf we'll be having a problem buying bread at $10 a loaf.

All the intelligent people have no problem understanding that. The real issue is trying to explain that to a two by four
