Do you not want medical care, police protection, public libraries, Jails to keep the bad guys in, services for the infirm, etc.etc.etc.?
I think once a person reaches the age of 70 he/she should never have to pay any taxes in any way shape or form as we have already done our fair share in raising and supporting the younger generations!
Those are also forms of tax deferral applicable to a small subset of overall income. Claiming a deduction on a home office can result in capital gains upon disposition of that home.
On that note, those tax breaks are not exclusive to any one income demographic and considering that there is presently a progressive tax rate scale in place, the examples you provided are not tax breaks at all, just slightly (and very slightly) less than the maximum.
