I believe the CPP need to maintain a return of 4% after inflation in order to remain solvent. Its a tough ask.

pension income is taxable.

not really sure how or why that particular bit of false news got thrown around but rest assured pension income is earned income.

CPP is only one factor.

I see nothing wrong with it, seniors should look after their own retirement costs.
Many of them go thru life spending like there is no tomorrow, then they expect the government to look after them when they retire,,,,screw that,,,look after your own retirement.

There's definitely a few like that Durry, but they are in the minority much the same as the rest of the population. Cannucklehead just likes to f**king whine!

Money out has exceeded money in for most of the last 50 years. Billions of dollars in public debt. Seniors haven't looked after themselves. They've saddled their children and grandchildren with that burden.

Must be cozy under your rock, seniors were/are far better money managers than the dolts that warm/ed seats in ottawa, the assertion our kids/gkids will inherit a massive debt is true but the finger of blame lies well beyond the family circle. A mindless gaggle of politicial dolts merit that award, trudough sr. luved credit cards, now junior sez budgets balance themselves n' preaches his spend your way to prosperity is a responsible fiscal plan.
I doubt many exworking stiff seniors'll qualify for the paradise list but it's a given some political dolts'll make it, libs never met a loonie they couldn't parlay into $2000 public debt overnight.

It's ironic Larry- Cannucklehead has owed so much to so many for so long & hasn't got the brains to see it, just an incessant f**king whiner day after day!

Your generation kept voting them in. Funny how your generation can't seem to take responsibility for their actions

.. owed so much to so many for so long & hasn't got the brains to see it

But I can see it. That's the point...and I have you to thank for saddling me with this debt I owe to so many for so long.

Unlike you, I want to do everything I can to ensure my kids aren't treated the same way, even if it means I do without. Of course, I'm not selfish like you.

Blaming your parents/gparents for the gross ineptitude of political numbskulls indicates you support ottawa dolts, true we hold elections as important which they are trusting candidates to toil for the public good if elected. Electors past and present have not betrayed that trust the tools they send to public office have, $billions sit untaxed offshore as government honchos and friends of government enjoy the fruits of tax loopholes.

Nope. I support accepting responsibility for your actions. Our seniors have continually argued for, fought for and supported politicians that favoured borrowing money to maintain or improve a standard of living. Own it.

Personal Best: Wealthy is not the reality

Have you seen recent items in the media lately that talk about wealthy seniors ripping off business and government by receiving discounts and rebates simply because of their age although living in relative affluence? Even Maclean’s magazine has encouraged this point of view with the headline, “Old. Rich. Spoiled.” Sounds good, but as usual in media hype, it is untrue.
Isobel Mackenzie, first B.C. seniors advocate, found that stereotyping seniors as wealthy does not reflect the reality for many B.C. seniors. In her press release Oct. 10, 2014, she states that stereotyping seniors as wealthy does not reflect the reality for many B.C. seniors and what she found instead is “incomplete information that has resulted in a mis-representation of the economic plight of many seniors.” The release also tells us that Statistics Canada pegs the 2011 median income for those over 65 at $23,700. This means that 50 per cent of seniors in Canada are living on less than $23,700 per year, (referred to by some as the poverty line) with the majority living alone. The median income for 35 to 44-year-olds is $43,300 with the overwhelming majority living in a two-person household, sharing costs that are often borne by the single senior. Here in British Columbia alone, we have more than 52,000 seniors who are living on $16,300 per year or less. Yes that is 52,000 seniors living on government pensions alone and living in poverty.
Some forget that seniors also make significant contributions to our communities. We know that the greatest amount of volunteering is done by seniors and more significant are the millions of hours of care that is provided every year in this country by seniors to their spouses, families, and in some cases, their parents. If seniors didn’t do the care provision and volunteering in the community the cost to all levels of government would be staggering.
Mackenzie was appointed as the long promised seniors advocate in March 2014 and should be a great resource for seniors. This appointment was made under the Seniors Advocate Act of British Columbia, as part of the B.C. Government’s Seniors Action Plan. The advocate is given wide scope to examine and advocate for seniors on issues related to: health care, personal care, transportation, housing, income supports. In addition the advocate will: monitor services, provide information and referral, analyze systemic issues, and provide recommendations to governments and service providers on any improvements that can be made. A big job and badly needed.
Immediately after being appointed, she undertook a province-wide tour of 26 urban and rural communities throughout B.C. and met with thousands of seniors, family members, stakeholders and service providers. She produced an excellent report entitled The Journey Begins Together and I will write more about this later. This document is available by contacting the office of the seniors advocate at www.seniorsadvocatebc.ca or phoning 1-877-952-3181 or writing the Office of the Seniors Advocate, 1st Floor, 1515 Blanshard St., PO Box 9651, STN PROV GOVT, Victoria, B.C., V8W 9P4.

A young person talking about old people is like a white person talking about black people.

The only action available regarding political power I'm aware of is the ballot, appears your proposing revolution and with the current spend like there's no tomorrow elitist at the ottawa helm your proposal has a chance. In no stretch of the imagination can honest hard working canucks be blamed for political blundering. Not for me to own sadly as intimated earlier our kids and gkids will inherit the gigantic mortgage our politicians have arranged for them, wynne is helping by arranging orbit style hydro rates for them in an effort to retain power next election, libs never met a loonie they couldn't parlay into $2000 public debt overnight

That's not the lawn. It's a circa 1972 Tiki Lounge themed basement with green shag carpet, teleposts wrapped with burlap topped with coconuts and plastic palms, masks and spears hung upon wood paneled walls, a bamboo bar in front of an orange swirl effect mirror tiled wall with glass shelving.

So, you're losing your memory, too. Pretty much typical.

I'm sure there's a government program he can access for help

You trough feeding pigs would have an ounce of credibility if you actually argued "FOR" significant cuts to program spending and transfers. As it is, all we get from seniors is a denial of responsibility as they line up for yet another go at the trough. All the while, criticizing other trough feeders and immigrants who are helping to fill the trough. It's pathetic really

Lives in the trough - complains about others taking from it.
