The OPP likely will have nothing to investigate on the driver who rammed the car hauler.......


Vincent Di Pinto, another witness to the crash, had just left work at York University and was headed north on the highway when he saw "a large transport slam nose-first" into the back of another large truck that was transporting cars.

"After that I heard some popping sounds, and then a loud explosion ... I got out and looked and it was just explosions, one explosion after another and orange flames that were starting to go up into the sky."

Yep, definitely another case where it's the car drivers' fault. Boomer will tell ya.

The front truck was stopped because of another collision ...probably a couple of drag-racing Italian princlings from Woodbridge. They're on that stretch of the 400 all of the time.

Going from 88 to 89 north is uphill with a long view. Not sure why the rear truck didn't see traffic was stopped. And once you get over the hill another long view ahead ......

I just watched CP24 and the OPP say the road was dry and the visibility good. He added that sitting higher up the truck should have seen that the traffic was stop and go ahead because people would have been hitting their brakes causing the lights to come on.


He didn't want to speculate but they will be checking the trucks brakes plus hours of work the driver had and distracted driving.....

You could always add auto breaking for any vehicle that is using cruise control. The same thing that is found in a fish finder could tell when you are closing in on the vehicle in front of you and it kills the cruise control and starts applying the break even if you were to step on the gas.

That's called adaptive cruise control, and most new cars (at least the more expensive ones) have it.


The assumption nowadays is that all drivers are stupid, so the car has to do all the thinking for them.

Driverless vehicles are coming on fast.A quarter century from now, collisions like this should be almost impossible if they are communicating with each other in real time.

I can see that on a freeway where bumper to bumper would double the traffic flow but unless it has heat seeking devices it won't save a jaywalker from being run over.

Do I order the periscope option that raises a mast and the data sows up on a screen as dots all around you?
Newer cars are safer so they should get rated for high speed, the old Chevette whose wheels might come off should max out at 50kph. No idea how that would be implemented other than the state picking up the tab for a yearly inspection and the color of the plate would match it's road worthy rating.

Bring in mandatory dash cams for all commercial vehicles.

How about a camera that focuses on the driver? What is happening in front of him only shows part of the story. What is happening behind the dashcam is what the police really need to see.

Also, I did not see your comments following the comment, because I was replying to that specific comment. Three of the same words in the same paragraph. Wow, I must stink as an author.

Again, I don't see this as a trucking industry issue. How many times do you see car drivers flipped over, piled up. By all means, if a truck driver is driving dangerously, nail the bastard, but that doesn't mean the industry is full of cowboys killing people.

Thing is, when a truck or tanker crashes into something the damage and potential loss of life goes up exponentially. 10 prior deaths and at least 4 more in yesterday's crash.

I agree, but here's a comparison to consider.

If somebody says, "We are putting all Muslims on notice," because one Muslim took a truck and mowed a bunch innocent people down, people would say, "You can't do that, your generalizing." and they'd be right. The same applies here. Statistically people driving cars and light vehicles kill more of each other than transport trucks do. I'd bet it's fractional. I don't even have to look it up, I'm that confident. I don't know how many close calls I've had on the road because of somebody else's inattention, but I do know a lot of professional drivers out there who navigate poor drivers every day.

It's simply easier to make generalizations to appease the torch and pitchfork folks.
