Provincial police say they're putting transport truck drivers ``on notice'' after laying charges in three horrific collisions involving big rigs that claimed the lives of six people.

OPP Commissioner Vince Hawkes says two of the collisions occurred on Highway 401, one near Port Hope, Ont., on Aug. 3, and the other in Chatham-Kent, Ont., on July 30. The third occurred on Highway 48 in Georgina, Ont., on July 27.

Hawkes says two people were killed in each of the collisions in which it's alleged a transport truck crashed into traffic that was stopped or had slowed down due to road construction or a collision.

The four men, one woman and 14-year-old boy who were killed in the crashes were all occupants in vehicles at the end of the traffic queues.

Hawkes says the details mirror a fourth collision on May 11 on Highway 401 near Kingston, Ont., in which three men and a woman died when their vehicle was struck from behind by a transport truck in a construction zone. Charges have already been laid in that incident.

Hawkes says the OPP is ``putting drivers on notice'' that it will pursue every investigative avenue to hold at-fault drivers accountable to the full extent of the law.

I see idiots in cars doing all sorts of suicidal things around truck rigs during my daily commutes. Cutting off trucks is one of the shortcuts to Valhalla, folks. Perhaps, drivers should be given mandatory practical retests say every decade or so and the all too common shitty drivers be "re-educated" after a cooling period without their licences. That will be a lot more effective than hassling truckers.

In this case it was trucks running into cars that were stopped. Try to keep up.

Cars put themselves in front of trucks where they'll be hit because their drivers are gormless twits.

Try to be more observant.

These 3 citied collisions happened when traffic was stopped for a construction zone or something and the teucks going 100 kmh slammed into the stopped cars.

3 years ago I came upon such a thing. I was northbound on the 400 at the 401 when all of a sudden I saw a huge cloud ahead of me but in the southbound lanes. Southbound traffic was stopped because there was one lane on the ramp to the East 401closed.

It was a trucker going full speed who didn't see the traffic was stopped despite there being a big flashing sign saying so...

Each of these incidents reportedly resulted from an inattentive commercial truck drivers slamming into the line of either slowed or stopped traffic. This is driver inattention at its worst.”

OPP commissioner J.V.N. "Vince" Hawkes told reporters these collisions share a number of common elements, which all "resulted from an inattentive truck driver slamming into the line of either slowed or stopped traffic" on a highway due to road construction or a collision ahead.

"This is driver inattention at its worst," said Hawkes.

Here's the one I mentioned....

A truck driver faces multiple charges in connection with a fiery 12-vehicle Highway 400 crash that killed four people in June, including a little girl and two women from the same family.

Ontario Provincial Police said Thursday that Sarbjit Singh Matharu, 35, of Winnipeg, has been charged with four counts of criminal negligence causing death and one count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

My, there's a sweeping generalization. Wouldn't they pursue every investigative avenue to hold at fault drivers accountable anyway?

By the way, MHZ, most truck drivers already have their own dash cam to protect them against idiot four-wheelers.

The only thing I can think of is they would check the drivers phone to see if they were using it at the time of the crash, which is something I would have thought they do.......

Phones are a huge issue on the road. Especially texting.

Fortunately not.. accident free, zero points, and not infractions.. my license is clean. I’m just not that much of a rush.. Also I leave my cell phone charging in the sleeper, and have a headset for telephone calls.. hands free.

I’m not making .38 cents a miles like some of these company drivers, running, rushing and taking chances..

$1.69 a mile at 62 miles per hours average speed over a 2 week jont of 7,000 miles.. I’m doing okay. No rush Man.

Phones are a huge issue on the road. Especially texting.

80% of accidents involving car and tractor trailer are the cars fault.. speaks volumes
