She's actually not the first female Marine Grunt... she's the first Marine Grunt Officer. She'll command a platoon of Grunts. If she does well, she'll be a Company XO... then maybe a Company Commander, etc.
Everything is going just fine because they kept the standards up and the female Marines who passed can hang with the rest of them.

And in compliment to our Canadian friends, I remember when the first woman qualified for the Canadian Special Infantry (Special Forces to us Yankees). Just like this LT, she was cut no slack in the training and qualification, and the universal attitude among her unit was "she took the training, she hacked the tough part, she's ours," with zero tolerance for anyone who questioned the courage, skill, or professionalism of a Special Infantry soldier.
Call me a sexist or just old fashioned but my heartstrings tugged when Cap't. Goddard was killed while spotting artillery in Afghanistan. She was a professional soldier, I know but she looked like a high school sweetie. My problem, not hers but I'll bet that I'm not the only one.

Very true. Karen was a hell of a woman and a hell of an officer. Never backed down or slacked off. Air Force physical requirements aren't anywhere near as tough as Marine, but she was a real man (except that she was a woman). I had long since lost touch with her, and gotten out of service myself, but when I heard of her death, it knocked me sideways.
Sorry to hear it. Every life lost in service should be remembered but for most of us at this time in our history, it isn't so personal.
More like it is the ones suffering from Islamophobia that I have an issue with as they post the same shit many times a day, every day. Imagine if I did that to their favorite group. ES is a patriot, a bit overboard but that is all.
Without trying to be sexist or racist woman and war should mean they are kept off the front lines and are in charge of the supply end of the war so all the men can be at the front lines. Kids and old people would make up the lowest ranks in a war or siege. That is not how a war is fought anymore except for the media clips that justify the military budget.
