Figured I'd use one of Das' favourite lines.

Canada won’t do business with Boeing while it’s ‘busy trying to sue us’: PM

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau dropped the gloves Monday in his fight with Boeing, saying the government won't do business with a company that he's accusing of attacking Canadian industry and trying to put aerospace employees out of work.

Trudeau's broadside represents the strongest Canadian rhetoric yet against the U.S. aerospace giant since Boeing launched a trade dispute with Montreal-based rival Bombardier earlier this year.

It also leaves little doubt that the Liberals are serious about walking away from a controversial plan to purchase 18 so-called "interim" Super Hornet fighter jets from Boeing if the company doesn't stand down.

Indeed, Trudeau also appeared to leave the door open to excluding Super Hornets entirely from any future competition to replace more broadly Canada's aging fleet of CF-18 jets with 88 new planes.

Such a move would be difficult given international trade laws, but if successful, it could represent a major blow to Boeing: the 88 new jets are expected to cost between $15 billion and $19 billion.

The U.S. State Department estimated last week that it would cost Canada more than $6 billion to buy 18 interim Super Hornets.

"We have obviously been looking at the Super Hornet aircraft from Boeing as a potential significant procurement of our new fighter jets," Trudeau said during a news conference on Parliament Hill.

"But we won't do business with a company that's busy trying to sue us and trying to put our aerospace workers out of business."

Trudeau was appearing alongside British Prime Minister Theresa May, who said Canada and the U.K. would work together to defend Bombardier, which has a factory in Northern Ireland.

May said she has already made her feelings clear in a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, someone Trudeau also said would be hearing from Canada on the matter of Boeing vs. Bombardier.

"I will raise the issue of Bombardier when I meet with him again later this week," said May.

"I will be impressing upon him the importance of Bombardier to the United Kingdom, and particularly, obviously, to jobs in Northern Ireland."

Bombardier president Alain Bellemare was one of several Canadian business representatives who later took part in a roundtable with May organized by the British High Commission in Ottawa, but it wasn't clear whether the two had a chance to discuss the matter.

Boeing has accused of Bombardier of selling its CSeries passenger jets to a U.S. airline at an unfairly low price with help from government subsidies, and says the case affects its long-term economic health.

The U.S. Commerce Department is currently investigating the complaint, and is expected to release its preliminary findings next week and a finding against Bombardier could result in fines or tariffs.

I take it neither you nor the author of the piece understands that, in boxing, "dropping your gloves" means opening yourself up to a knockout punch to the head.

In one way it`s good for Justine to tell Boeing to piss off, on the other hand he is just trying to insure he has a place to dump billions more of our tax dollars in "subsidies" that eventually make it to his cronies.

Personally, the super hornet sucks and comes with software licensed only to the pentagon meaning they can shut down our planes with a keystroke. The Typhoon is still the best fighter out there and that is where we should look.

Quite obvious libs cherish qc votes and have no qualms about supporting with tax loonies an outfit that is clueless about balance sheets. Bumbadeer, trudough and may vs boeing and trump.. I doubt it will be much of a skirmish however the best part is we'll not see any f-35s on the tarmac. Good time for putin to fly a su-35 over for a demo.

Canada needs hyper-sonic missiles rather than air-craft. It is a lot easier to keep control of the skies in Canada. Planes just get flown to other countries and used in wars we shouldn't even be a part of. The EU need planes, Canada doesn't. If the US has no plan to defend the us then the odds are we will never be attacked because we are not a major piece on the board.

Long haul, heavy lift choppers could be used a lot, even turn a profit if they did work for the civil side.

Not in Canada. It is a hockey term meaning players are ready to duke it out with bare knuckles. It is considered unsporting to keep your gloves on in a hockey fight even if it makes more sense.

lol...now thats down right funny!

I guess you (either of you) have ever been in any hockey fights. You can't grab a hockey shirt with gloves on, nor inflict the type of damage that will end the fight, nor teach the other guy the lesson that was the reason for the fight in the first place with gloves on.

When "the gloves come off" always meant it's time to get serious.

If you played, nice gloves stapled on would make it easier for people like you to get involved in a safe way though I guess.

That's called "Kid gloves"

Well then I guess Montreal's Village Idiot had best start talking to Lockheed-Martin about F-35s.

NOT Australia about used-up F-18s.

So typically Liberal.

Thank God no one is selling surplus Sopwith Camels.

They'd be more useful than jets anyway...

If anyone believes that the US government hasn't subsidized their aircraft manufacturers in a major way over the decades, take a good look at the contents of the aircraft graveyards out in the desert and the thousands of new, unused and really expensive aircraft stored there.

Libs after their success in acquiring perfectly good subs on kijiji have not yet had sufficient time to hone their kite shopping skills, don't despair they may locate a sopwith or two to buy n' tell us yet again how savvy they be.

I know. My image of hockey is from the movie "Slap Shot." Not because it's true, because it's funny.

And what an image it is!

These guys who are just about worshiped here in Gopherland. Jack still lives in the Metro area where he is a preacher and an official in the area's biggest amateur league.
