BERLIN — German police say they have seized thousands of tablets of the party drug ecstasy in the shape of Donald Trump’s head, a haul with an estimated street value of 39,000 euros (US$45,900.)
Police in Osnabrueck, in northwestern Germany, say they found the drugs while checking an Austrian-registered car on the A30 highway on Saturday.
They say the people in the car, a 51-year-old man and his 17-year-old son, told officers they had been in the Netherlands to buy a vehicle but hadn’t succeeded so were returning home.
Officers said they found about 5,000 of the orange, Trump-shaped ecstasy tablets along with a large, but unspecified quantity of cash.
A judge on Sunday ordered the father and son kept in custody. The car was seized and towed away.

Former CIA agent wants to buy Twitter to kick Donald Trump off

WASHINGTON — Former undercover CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson is looking to crowdfund enough money to buy Twitter so President Donald Trump can’t use it.
Wilson launched the fundraiser last week, tweeting: “If @Twitter executives won’t shut down Trump’s violence and hate, then it’s up to us. #BuyTwitter #BanTrump.” The GoFundMe page for the fundraiser says Trump’s tweets “damage the country and put people in harm’s way.”
As of Wednesday morning, she had raised less than $6,000 of the billion-dollar goal.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders calls the fundraiser a “ridiculous attempt” to shut down the president’s First Amendment rights.
Wilson’s identity as a CIA operative was leaked by an official in former President George W. Bush’s administration in 2003. She left the agency in 2005.

Rosie O'Donnell urged Kathy Griffin to apologize for Trump beheading photo

Kathy Griffin agreed to issue a publicly apology following the Donald Trump beheading photo controversy after a heart-to-heart with fellow comedienne Rosie O’Donnell.
Griffin hit headlines in May when she posted footage from a photoshoot with provocative snapper Tyler Shields on social media, depicting her holding up a decapitated Trump “wig head”.
The scandal sparked a backlash online, and even prompted an investigation by U.S. Secret Service officials, leading the funnywoman to pull the images from her site, and express her sorrow over the ill-conceived photo session.
Now Griffin has revealed it was O’Donnell, another vocal critic of the U.S. president, who convinced her she had gone too far.
In a candid interview with The Cut, the TV personality explains O’Donnell called her and made her think twice after referencing the American journalist who was beheaded by ISIS terrorists in 2014.
“What is James Foley’s mum going to think when she sees this?,” O’Donnell asked Griffin.
The conversation was enough to make Griffin post a video apology online, but she later staged a defiant press conference, during which she accused the Republican President of bullying her.
Griffin, who lost a number of gigs following the scandal and became the target of death threats, insists she is no longer willing to say sorry for her misjudgement, because Trump’s controversial actions in office have proved he is not fit to lead the country.
“He said there are some good Nazis, and he’s kicking out young adults who were brought here as kids by their parents, and I’m the one who has to continue to apologise?,” she remarked as she addressed Trump’s response following the violent white supremacy rally in Charlottesville, Virginia earlier this month and his hardline approach to illegal immigration. “I’m a comedian; he’s our f----ing president.”
Griffin was exonerated by Secret Service officials over her involvement in the bloody photoshoot last month.

Sorry, not sorry; Kathy Griffin retracts apology over Trump beheading photo

LOS ANGELES — Kathy Griffin retracted her apology for a gory image of a fake Donald Trump head, saying anger against her was overblown and should be directed at Trump and his administration.
A feisty Griffin, interviewed Tuesday on Australian TV in advance of an international comedy tour, slammed the president and his actions as she reversed course from her tearful mea culpa in May.
“So the picture happened, the outrage was ridiculous, I made an apology, and now in light of all the crazy stuff that he (Trump) and this administration are doing..... He’s unhinged,” she said on the morning show “Sunrise.”
The comedian condemned Trump’s pardon of former Arizona lawman Joe Arpaio and the president’s call for a ban on military service by transgender people. She also referred to Trump as a “fool,” among other derogatory terms.
One “Sunrise” host pressed her on whether it was out of line to pose for photos and a video with a mask of Trump covered in tomato sauce to simulate blood from a severed head. Griffin pushed back.
“Stop acting like my little picture is more important than talking about the actual atrocities that the president of the United States is committing,” she said.
Griffin said she lost friends and work, and received death threats during the uproar.
She had quickly apologized in a video in which she called the Trump image “disturbing” and also during a tearful news conference, but was fired from her most high-profile job as co-host of CNN’s New Year’s Eve Celebration. Comedy gigs were cancelled.
It didn’t take long for her to realize that what was happening to her could be the basis of laughs, Griffin said during a satellite interview, and she decided to embark on the “Laugh Your Head Off” tour.
She’s also on “a mission to tell people, honestly, if it happened to me, as big mouthed and obnoxious as I am, it can happen to you,” said Griffin.
Griffin spoke this week by satellite to “Sunrise” and another Australian show, “The Project,” to promote her upcoming appearances there. She’ll also be on stage in Europe and elsewhere.

School district apologizes after teacher bans Trump campaign shirts

WOODSTOCK, Ga. — A Georgia school district has apologized after a teacher told two students that their shirts promoting President Donald Trump’s campaign weren’t allowed in class.
The apology comes after video circulated online showing a River Ridge High School math teacher telling the students they couldn’t wear the “Make America Great Again” shirts, “just like you cannot wear a swastika to school.”
The video appears to have been recorded by another student in class who questioned the teacher. The teacher explained that the shirts were inappropriate not because of Trump but because the slogan was used by “the neo-Nazis.”
Cherokee County School District spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby says that the teacher’s actions were inappropriate and that the students won’t face discipline. She says the district can’t discuss disciplinary action against a teacher.

New Miss America calls out Trump on Paris accord, doesn't fear Twitter war
Wayne Parry, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
First posted: Monday, September 11, 2017 08:55 AM EDT | Updated: Monday, September 11, 2017 03:11 PM EDT
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — An Ivy League graduate headed to law school, with eyes on becoming her state’s first female governor, Miss North Dakota Cara Mund knew the importance of answering a question head-on.
So when judges at the Miss America competition asked her whether President Donald Trump was wrong to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate accords that seek to rein in greenhouse gas emissions, she did not hesitate.
“It’s a bad decision,” she said during Sunday night’s nationally televised finale. “There is evidence that climate change is existing, and we need to be at that table.”
That answer helped her win the crown as Miss America 2018 at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall.
Meeting with reporters afterward, Mund said she wanted first and foremost to give a real answer to the question.
“I wasn’t really afraid if my opinion wasn’t the opinion of my judges,” she said. “Miss America needs to have an opinion and she needs to know what’s happening in the current climate.”
On Monday, after taking the winner’s traditional morning-after dip in the Atlantic City surf, Mund reiterated that the U.S. should be part of the talks on greenhouse gases, which contribute to global warming.
“My onstage question answer was just my personal opinion,” she told The Associated Press. “I think everyone has a right to think what they want. But it’s important to have a spot at the negotiating table. This isn’t necessarily: ‘Does climate change exist or not?’ but rather the fact that we’re going to keep our Earth clean for future generations, and I just think it’s really important that we have a seat there. To pull out, I think, is just really unfortunate.”
Trump, who once owned the now-shuttered Atlantic City casino next door to where Mund spoke on Monday, has said the Paris accord was a bad deal economically for the United States. He has also called global warming a hoax.
Mund wants to one day be the first woman elected governor of North Dakota. She would not say if she is registered with any political party.
“I have my personal opinions, and I’d rather say I’m not a Republican and I’m not a Democrat. I’m an American,” she said.
Mund did an internship last year with U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., who praised her selection as Miss America.
“She did a fabulous job and we could not have been more excited when she won,” Hoeven said. “Cara is well-deserving of the crown and does a wonderful job representing North Dakota. We have no doubt she will continue to make our state proud during her reign as Miss America.”
Mund went to high school with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, graduating a year after he did.
She is the first contestant from North Dakota to win the Miss America crown. She graduated from Brown University and will enter law school when her time as Miss America is over.
In an interview with the AP shortly before arriving in Atlantic City for the competition, Mund said it began to sink in that someone from her sparsely populated state could become Miss America.
“It hit me that this could happen,” she said. “Someone from North Dakota could become Miss America. This could actually happen.”

ESPN denounces host Jemele Hill for calling Donald Trump a 'white supremacist' in Twitter tirade
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
First posted: Wednesday, September 13, 2017 12:11 PM EDT | Updated: Wednesday, September 13, 2017 08:36 PM EDT
BRISTOL, Conn. — White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Wednesday that sports anchor Jemele Hill could justifiably be fired from ESPN for tweets calling President Donald Trump a “white supremacist” and “a bigot.”
“I think that’s one of the more outrageous comments that anyone could make, and certainly something that I think is a fire-able offence by ESPN,” Sanders said.
Sanders said she was not sure whether the president was aware of Hill’s comments.
On Monday night, in a series of exchanges with other Twitter users, Hill said, “Donald Trump is a white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself w/ other white supremacists.”
Hill, an African-American co-host of the 6 p.m. broadcast of “SportsCenter,” also added that “Trump is the most ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime. His rise is a direct result of white supremacy. Period.”
In another tweet, she said, “Donald Trump is a bigot,” and went on to criticize his supporters, adding “The height of white privilege is being able to ignore his white supremacy, because it’s of no threat to you. Well, it’s a threat to me.”
ESPN distanced itself from Hill’s tweets on Tuesday.
“The comments on Twitter from Jemele Hill regarding the president do not represent the position of ESPN,” the network tweeted from its public relations department’s account. “We have addressed this with Jemele and she recognizes her actions were inappropriate.”
Disney-owned ESPN did not elaborate on any possible punishment for Hill, and she was on “SportsCenter” as usual on Tuesday and Wednesday.
While many Twitter users called for Hill to be fired, unemployed NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick expressed his support, tweeting “We are with you @jemelehill.”
Kaepernick, who remains unsigned after opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers, received plenty of criticism — and support — after kneeling during the national anthem before games last season to protest police brutality.
When asked why prominent African-Americans were criticizing Trump, Sanders said she could not speak for Hill and said the president has met with respected African-American leaders like U.S. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, the only black Republican in the Senate.
“He’s committed to working with them to bring the country together,” Sanders said. “I think that’s where we need to be focused — not on outrageous statements like that one.”
The National Association of Black Journalists said in a statement that it “supports Hill’s First Amendment rights on all matters of discussion, within and outside the world of sports, as they do not impinge on her duties as a host and commentator.”
Three weeks ago, ESPN said it pulled broadcaster Robert Lee, who is Asian-American, from the Virginia football season opener because of violence in Charlottesville, Virginia. The violence erupted at a rally to protest the decision to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.

Trump retweets doctored video of him hitting Clinton with golf ball
Hope Yen, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
First posted: Sunday, September 17, 2017 11:11 PM EDT | Updated: Sunday, September 17, 2017 11:18 PM EDT
WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump took another swing at Hillary Clinton in the latest sign that his campaign fury hasn’t faded, retweeting a mock video that shows him smacking a golf ball that — in the next frame — seemingly strikes her in the back before she stumbles and falls down while boarding a plane.
Trump retweeted the brief video on his official Twitter account early Sunday, which appears to be a doctored version of news footage from 2011 that shows the then-secretary of state falling after climbing the airplane stairs. The re-edited video appears to have superimposed images of a golf ball that is shown hitting Clinton.
The tweet says: “Donald Trump’s amazing golf swing #CrookedHillary.”
A Clinton spokesman declined comment. The White House issued no immediate comment, and Trump aides have said in the past that his tweets “speak for themselves.” The assessment from Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.: “juvenile.”
Back in July, Trump vented his rage against the media by posting someone else’s doctored anti-CNN video that showed Trump pummeling a man in a business suit — the man’s face obscured by the CNN logo — outside a wrestling ring.
Trump has stepped up his criticism of Clinton since the Democratic presidential nominee re-emerged in the spotlight to promote her new book about the 2016 campaign. She is unsparing in her assessment of Trump, calling him “a clear and present danger to the country and the world.”
Trump often cites his electoral vote victory as evidence of campaign prowess and popularity with Americans. He is quick to challenge or criticize anyone or anything that might undercut that premise. Trump has established a commission to investigate his unsubstantiated claims that millions of people voted illegally in 2016, when Clinton won the popular vote by nearly 2.9 million votes.
“It is distressing though to have a president that, frankly, will tweet and retweet things as juvenile as that,” Schiff said on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday. “It doesn’t help, I think, in terms of his stature. It doesn’t help in terms of the stature of our whole country.”
Clinton’s book assigns blame for her presidential loss on several factors, including interference from Russian hackers, accusations levelled at her by former FBI Director James Comey and even her gender. The White House has criticized the book, with spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders calling it “sad” that the last chapter of Clinton’s public life will be defined by selling books with “false and reckless attacks.”
In a pair of tweets last week, Trump took direct aim at Clinton.
“Crooked Hillary Clinton blames everybody (and every thing) but herself for her election loss. She lost the debates and lost her direction!” Trump wrote.
Referring to Clinton’s past description of some Trump supporters, he later tweeted: “The ‘deplorables’ came back to haunt Hillary. They expressed their feelings loud and clear. She spent big money but, in the end, had no game!”

MADSION, Wis. — A man accused of stealing an arsenal of firearms from a southern Wisconsin gun shop and sending an anti-government manifesto to President Donald Trump says he regrets surviving his failed attempt to run from authorities.
Joseph Jakubowski says his 10 days on the run last April were the best days of his life.
Jakubowski is set to go on trial in federal court in Madison beginning Monday.
In an interview with the Wisconsin State Journal, Jakubowski says he’s proud that he was able to publicize his anger and frustration toward the government.
But, he says he would rather have died in a gun battle with officers.
The 33-year-old self-proclaimed anarchist from Janesville was captured in Vernon County April 14 after a landowner found him camping on his property.
