I think the story line that the Polish honored the Soviets as their saviors was an extension of Soviet propaganda.

When someone incites violence, they are accomplices to violence. When that violence leads to murder, then they accomplices to murder. You don't have to get blood on your hands to be a murderer. My poison would be neither. A bullet to the back of the head in some unknown forest is no different than a firing squad against the wall. The Poles never got out from being under an oppressive yoke until Lech Wellessa, Pope John Paul II, and Gorbechev came on the scenes. All those statues were placed by the oppressive Communist regimes (Soviet and Polish) post WWII. The Soviets did not admit guilt for the Katyn Forest Massacre until the 1990's.

And the Nazis did bite off more than they could chew and the Soviets made them and the German people pay dearly.
