No secret agenda... it was part of his campaign platform to fight legalized abortion in Canada... it was how he United the broken up religious conservatives at the time to form government... but once he got elected... he quickly backtracked and said there wasn't anything he could do about it.

Kenney is playing the same political game ... that is all I meant.
I don't recall Harper campaigning at all on the abortion issue . He always stated that the issue was settled , because he did not want to open that can of worms .

I think parents should be informed confidentially so they can hold some type of intervention.. and provide their children some behavioural and religious therapy.. as they would with drug abuse. It could save their children from a short life of misery, illness and dissolution.

So, you're 'intervention' would be for who, the gays of the club, or the kids who are straight who are there to support gays?

did I say you did?

You did bring them up in response to my post so the implication was there. At any rate, it was a feeble attempt at deflection. The issue is where the line between state and parental rights and responsibilities begin and end. Jason should get involed in this discussion as should every politician. Ms Lang should keep her interest in Jason's sex life to herself

Then you recall wrong. He only said it was settled once he got the job... he rode the issue with false promises whipping up the religious rt to carry him there.

I remember because I had family members who were backing him based on that promise

Didn't I not say you don't say they didn't not don't say. . .

I know he thinks I understand what he thought I said but I'm not sure he realizes that what he understands is not what I wrote

getting involved with the discussion is one thing. "Outing" a teen is completely another and non of anyone's business but the teen(s) involved.

That's just your opinion and its not supported by facts. For starters telling parents a child has joined a gay straight alliance isnt "outing" them as one does not have to be gay to join. Both my younger daughters joined one and are heterosexual.

yes, it is my opinion that a teens sexuality and support groups are non of a parents business.

Just like I believe that whatever a teenager talks to their counsellor about is non of the parents business unless the teen is on board with sharing it.

and since it's all opinion based and there are no "facts" as you suggest...

To be fair, Cannuck never claimed that his opinion was based on facts, he merely stated yours isn't.

As a lawyer, I thought it was a pretty good trick.

Actually, there are facts. Like the fact that risk of suicide is greater among homosexuals.

You are right. He'd actually used the word 'reality'. My mistake.

facts are important. For example, its a fact that you don't have to be gay to join a gay/straight alliance. That's an important fact to remember when people try to tell you it's about "outing" teens. The issue is about parental rights and responsibilities. That's not sexy enough though. Some folks have to try and make it about gay bashing. We should maybe throw in abortion as well. That always gets knickers twisted.

Dear Parent,

This letter is to inform you of of your child's participation in a gay / strait alliance club at our educational institution.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
We sincerely hope that you do not jump to any conclusions based on this information.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
The government just feels it's purpose is to inform parents of their child's well-being.
Not that being gay is a negative on their well being
or you thinking their gay is negative on your well being.
Not that their's anything wrong with that
Were not making your kids gay

Please don't sue us.

Desperate Regards,
An Alberta school division

In your case, facts are irrelevant. And it is about gay bashing.

P.S. Please also remember that beating your child, even if you're just trying to beat the gay out of him, is illegal, and could be prosecuted if the Mounties can be bothered to give a damn.
