We also need to be careful with inflation too though along with high interest rates.

Eliminate the minimum wage (but give workers more say in management so as to give them just leverage in labour-management relations like they do in some EU states), eliminate government waste, and redirect funds towards universal compulsory education and trades and professional training for the unemployed. Raising taxes is not ideal but still better than borrowing or printing money. At least it's more sustainable comparatively speaking. And if we really cut waste, we might even be able to if not lower taxes right away, at least start paying the debt too.

OTTAWA—Canada’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.6 per cent last month, its lowest level in more than two years, as fewer people were looking for work, Statistics Canada said Friday.

Several economists were quick to hail the numbers as a sign that Canada’s economy is on the mend, though at least one questioned the survey’s findings of a massive swing toward full-time employment at the expense of part-time jobs.

The decline of 0.2 percentage points from the previous month brought the rate down to a number not seen since January 2015.

The agency’s February employment survey indicated the national labour market added 15,300 jobs overall last month, higher than analyst expectations.

Economists had projected a gain of 2,500 jobs and the unemployment rate to stay at 6.8 per cent, according to Thomson Reuters.

These figures can no longer be trusted. Buried somewhere in the stats you'll actually find the true bellwether of the economy.

How many people are working vs. those who have given up looking for work; how many are actually making things in industry and manufacturing vs. shuffling things around and flipping burgers in transient low payed service jobs; how many have secure permanent employment and benefits (including pensions) vs. contract work.

You'll then be able to glean the dismal state of the Canadian economy in the Free Market Era, instead of the rosy picture the government of our Prime Twit wants you to believe, pasted over the economic wilderness, and for all but a few, your own reality and that of your family.

Just speaking from my experience in sw B.C. I still see lots of help wanted adds , but certainly not as many as 2-3 years ago . But there is still work available .

Aside from debt-fed growth, some might also be population-fed. Some refugees might have brought money with them, even more might have brought a trade or profession. While they can certainly take jobs, they also spend their money and so consume. With more population, we have more consumption. That is more sustainable growth than the debt-funded fluff.

Banks are calling the Liberal's huge deficit unsettling. Our economy is weaker, the deficit for 2016-17 is rising to $ 34 Billions, $5 billions more than predicted. It is not good news for the country. Banks will of course benefit in some way with this huge spending spree, but it's not good overall, it's simply too much. The liberals expenditure was at $ 62.9 billion in their first quarter, the money committed to infrastructure was all good, but that was 19%; this sort of spending is unprecedented.
