Trudeau over Trump: more Americans prefer PM as their president
If Americans had a choice, many of them would choose Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as their president over Donald Trump, according to an Ipsos poll conducted exclusively for Global News.
It found that more Americans agree (40 per cent) than disagree (33 per cent) that they’d prefer to have Trudeau than Trump in the White House, while about a third of respondents (27 per cent) didn’t have an opinion either way.
One of the reasons they feel this way is that half of the American population that didn’t vote for Trump were “really quite depressed” about his actions in office, Darrell Bricker, CEO of Ipsos Public Affairs, told Global News.
Trudeau, he said, communicates a “sense of hope” in contrast to Trump, and “for those voters he compares quite favourably,” Bricker added.
American respondents’ preference for Trudeau was just one finding in a wide-ranging survey that gauged U.S. opinion of Canada and its prime minister.
Many Americans seemed to have a relatively high awareness of Trudeau compared to his predecessor, ex-prime minister Stephen Harper.
It found just over four in 10 Americans (44 per cent) saying they’re familiar with Trudeau, while only 17 per cent of people in this survey knew who Harper was.

Silly boy! Trudeau can't hold a candle to Trump- just look at Trudeau's issues -very few are concerned with a better lot for Canadians and he can't even 'triage' priorities. Trump can identify the pressing problems and gets right down to work to work toward solving them. It will take him awhile to get his methods fine tuned, which will probably necessitate him 'sanding off' his rough edges. Trump has potential, Trudeau is long past his..........................no brains!

Almost on par, I think, pete.........but this time the buildings will have a lot more fun watching all those bums turn red and freeze. Just checked the weather channel forecast for Chicago on the 12th. 60% chance of rain with winds from 15 -30kph and a high of 7'. The wind chill factor will drive the temp down even more. Should be fun. :lol:
Ah, JLM...........I see you are still laboring under the assumption that Trump is in charge - he isn't. Trump signs documents - that is where his input begins and ends. Bannon and the boys are running this show all the way.
What you see with Trump is what you get now, tomorrow and beyond, JLM. I doubt even a life-changing event would alter him in any way. I'll say this for him, he is consistently Donald J Trump and there is no doubt about it.
I think I would be looking for a little more than potential in the person I chose to head the government, JLM. Little things like intelligence, humility, cogency and a good sense of humor would be on my list.

Yeah, you probably have a point about humility. I'd be a little hesitant to sell him short on the rest of them. I think Trump is very clear about his intentions and agenda, I think he's just a man who plays his cards close to his chest! I listened to a talk on C.B.C. the other day and it was said he's not much different from F.D.R. when he first took office in '33. Of course they all have their handlers and advisors. Remember, the man has had a pretty steep learning curve since Nov. 9. Let's wait until the 100 days are up before judging him harshly! I'm betting he'll be fine.

100 days from now, Trump will still be Trump and Bannon will still be in charge - unless, of course, something untoward happens between now and then.
You might pray that Bannon is kept in the media eye, gets lots of coverage, more mag covers, etc - I hear his boss doesn't like anyone to shine brighter than he does.

Do you really believe after all this time that Trump is not his own man ? Every leader in known times has surrounded himself ( her ) with smart people as advisors , some are apparently controversial ( Bannon , Emanuel - America or Butts - Canada ) some provide valid opinion and some stroke the ego > But make no mistake Trump might listen to advise , but he is still calling the shots .

Disapproval of Donald Trump's performance as President reached a new high on Monday in Gallup's daily tracking poll.
The tracking poll, which averages results over the previous three days, found that 54 percent of respondents disapproved of Trump’s performance in office, while only 42 percent approved. On Jan. 22, two days after his inauguration, respondents were split 45-45 percent on Trump’s performance.
Trump’s net approval rating in the Gallup poll dropped 8 points during his first week in office, though the gap between approval and disapproval has never been higher for Trump than what the poll currently reflects, a 12-point spread.
Gallup tracks the percentage of Americans who approve and disapprove of the President’s performance in office every day, based on telephone interviews with approximately 1,500 national adults, according to the company. The poll’s margin of error is 3 percentage points.

Syrian-American Sarmad Assali was a Trump supporter. Her family is Orthodox Christian, so they must have felt pretty safe from any potential Trump Muslim ban. Then last weekend happened. Suddenly, this Pennsylvania family was desperately trying to reach their US visa-carrying relatives after they had learned they were detained at the airport and forced back to the Middle East. Sarmand Assali's anger is vivid on this newscast where she kept saying "This is not human. It's just not human!"
In an interview, she explained how security guards at the airport asked her family members if they were Syrian. When they replied that they were, the guards literally said "Come with us."
Once identified as Syrian, her family members were treated horribly:
"They weren't even allowed to make a phone call and let us know what is going on," she says. "They had to beg the employees to call us, to let us know that they were being returned."
No translators. No legal counsel. They joined other people with proper US visas and green cards across the nation’s airports who were handcuffed and interrogated based solely on their nationality. I can understand Mrs. Assali's outrage, in which she (correctly) stated that all of this was "un-American.”
Cue the liberals.

Protests broke out everywhere, and the ACLU of Pennsylvania got involved. A lawsuit for the Assali family was filed, and an anti-ban protest rally was held in support of the Assalis. Their Democratic mayor, senator, and governor all made statements condemning the ban harshly along with a personal message of support for the Assali family. Trump stooge Pat Toomey, their GOP Senator, didn't say any word about the Assalis and would only admit the ban was "explained improperly." (Yeah, because that's the problem with fascism—the rollout has to be smooth.)
You know the rest. Liberals fought the ban in the courts and got it blocked. Trump whined, but America cheered. The Assalis were able to get their relatives back to the US during the lull, and Governor Wolf was able to greet them personally when they landed. Not only that, the governor paid their very expensive airfare.
The relatives, along with Sarmad Assali, to their credit, expressed their sincere gratitude for all of the outpouring of love and support.
What I took note of note here is that even after Trump subjected her family to so much horror, Sarmad Assali still wouldn't outright reject him. Asked if she was still a Trump supporter, she said this:
"I am a supporter of the constitution of the United States, and the freedom that we have here," she says. "I don't know what [Trump's] going to do next or if I support what he's gonna do. I can't tell at this point."
