Impossible for 99% of people.

Now what?

Public transit.

You said you live in a city, so you must have public transit, no?

Also, if a gas tax applied only to urban municipalities, you'd then have the option of moving to a rural municipality if you wanted to.

You don't benefit... you have a job.

By that logic, we should scrap all taxes since no tax directly benefits anyone. Do you support scrapping all taxes? And if not, then what taxes would you keep?

Or do you prefer replacing taxes with fees, fines, and tariffs?

Why should we scrap all taxes? That is ridiculous.

Well, if you oppose a gas tax, it must be because you think our present taxes are preferable, whether income tax, GST, etc. So, is a gas tax better or are our present taxes better, and why?

I did not realize this was Canada's FIRST gas tax.

No. I pay for transit on my Hydro, civic Provincial and as of late Federal taxes. You even helped pay for the latest transit expansion in my Metro region. Harper did it through the ActionPlan....(rotten bastard)

It's not. But I'd like to see my income taxes and the GST drop in the future, and a gas tax could be the way forward on that front.

I knew it wasn't.

What problem will the gas tax increase solve?

I am doubtful you will see your income tax or GST drop.

With a pro-gas-tax PM, it could happen. Chong supports a gas tax and small government. A nice combination in my estimation.

How? Comsumption is supposed to go down that means it's a diminishing revenue source.

As consumption decreases, we can always raise the tax over time while still reducing income tax and GST/HST.

Well this is an easy one. With oil prices going lower and lower, why is gas going higher and higher? A few criteria's, but the most relevant one is simply that the huge oil companies are being allowed to push theirs lost revenues in oil down our throat. We're still being fu#ked in the a#s when it is clear as day that the difference in oil and gas prices do not make sense, everybody knows that we are still paying the same gas price as if oil was still selling at $90 bucks a barrel!!. We're suppose to have a Competition Bureau to protect us, but I guess they're as irrelevant as most of the protection agency in Canada. They've raised this issue in courts, but it has not helped us any!! As for it's benefiting us, exactly how?? Same benefits as we will get from higher taxes and higher cost in hydro, etc.. WE, never benefit.

A rise in the gas tax had to be done for a reason. I am doubtful that the reason was to lower the income tax and GST.
