Nobody Wants To Be Trump's VP?

Trump has reportedly narrowed his choice for VP to 3 candidates... Indiana Governor Mike Pence, NJ Governor Chris Christie and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

The biggest mistake he could make would be to choose Newt Gingrich who is as flighty as you can get. He is associated the NeoCon debacle of the Contract on America in the 1990s (which got him fired by his own party) and has a completely sketchy personal life. He is far too insubstantial to do the ticket any good. Trump doesn't need an attack dog, like Christie, he fills that role well enough himself.. and you put two dogs in the same cage and you end up with a brawl.

Trump has all the momentum he needs for his campaign. He has the sails and he's picked up a full gale of trade winds. What his ship needs is a solid keel.. a complement to his style with someone who is firm, moderate, predictable, conventional. He needs someone with political finesse and who has some affinity with social conservatives. The only good choice is Mike Pence.
Chris Christie would be a good poodle but Trump must have rocks in his head if he's the choice.

Donald Trump’s new running mate is a born-again evangelical Christian, he’s fiercely opposed to abortion rights and he’s a staunch defender of Israel.

But that’s not enough for some evangelicals and other conservatives plugged into that community—especially those previously backing Ted Cruz—who haven’t forgiven Indiana Gov. Mike Pence for his backtracking on a religious freedom measure in his state. Resentment over his waffling on a bill that was important to social conservatives has dampened enthusiasm in some quarters for Trump’s running mate, who Trump’s allies had hoped would help improve relationships with evangelicals skeptical of Trump’s social conservative bona fides.

In 2015, Pence initially signed a Religious Freedom Restoration Act, or RFRA. He then backpedaled on language that critics feared could be discriminatory against gay people, but that some evangelicals felt was essential to defending religious freedom.
Social conservatives saw the move as a disappointment at best, and at worst, a betrayal—and some are still smarting over it.

“The reason why conservatives are not going to be moved that much by this choice is because Mike Pence, when he had an opportunity to stand up for religious liberty, to mark himself in history, he didn’t do that,” said South Carolina-based Pastor Mike Gonzalez, who led evangelical outreach for Cruz in the state. He went on to add, “I’d never thought that of Mike, but when it came down to it, he crumbled under pressure. That, for many evangelical conservatives, has been something that is a red flag.”

Pence says he wants to respect the judicial process. That's the process that convicted an innocent man and robbed him of a healthy chunk of his life. That process deserves not respect, but contempt - Jerry Englebach

Mike Pence Tells Wrongfully Convicted Man He Won’t Act On Pardon Request

After waiting more than two years to act on the request, Pence informed Keith Cooper this week that he would not grant his pardon “out of respect for the judicial process.”

After serving 10 years of a 40 year prison sentence for an Indiana armed robbery and attempted murder, Keith Cooper was freed when eyewitnesses recanted their testimony against him, new DNA evidence showed he wasn’t at the scene of the crime, and a jailhouse informant admitted that he lied to investigators.

Five years later, Cooper filed a pardon petition that, if it were granted, would make him the first person in the state’s history granted clemency based on a finding of innocence. When his request was presented to the parole board, they found unanimously that he should be pardoned and have the two serious felony charges wiped from his record.

Now, after waiting for more than two years for Governor Mike Pence to act on the board’s decision, Cooper has learned that the GOP vice presidential candidate won’t — unless Cooper can prove to the governor’s administration that all other judicial remedies have been exhausted.

Though Cooper is now out of jail, his felony conviction remains on his record, limiting his job opportunities.

Pence’s refusal to immediately pardon Cooper was criticized this week in an editorial in the South Bend Tribune, saying that Pence’s suggestion that he would wait until the judicial process is complete “defies reason.”

“An innocent man who has had a decade of his life stolen from him by a flawed process shouldn’t be advised to sit tight and wait a bit longer for the system to finally get it right,” the editorial reads. “Every one of us should feel the sting of such injustice. Nothing can erase all that Keith Cooper has endured, but the next step couldn’t be clearer. Governor Pence, issue this pardon.”

Cooper’s counsel believes that Pence’s continued delay is part of a strategy to put the decision on the next governor’s administration. (Pence pulled out of the 2016 gubernatorial race when he joined the Trump campaign.)

Just when everyone was starting to wonder if Trump is an A$$hole, it turns out his associate is ten times worse. Trump should dump him post haste!

Hey Walter- You don't believe a proven innocent man should be exonerated?

The first question on the application is, Can you be charged for any felony including treason?? . . . . and suddenly the basket is empty most days. Putin sent one in and Trump sent it back with an interview date.

Right after the hanging is cheaper in the long run.

Trump's Veep? If I was a Yank I'd jump at the opportunity! Bet there's a little money to be made there. Also one perk I might consider, is seeing if Donald would agree to me using his tax man! :)

Pence rejects evolution, claims creationism is the only rational explanation.Mike Pence, Donald Trump’s running mate, is a radical Christian extremist who wants creationism taught in public schools.Confronted by Hardball host Chris Matthews on evolution, Pence obfuscated on the issue, made appeals to God, and ultimately refused to acknowledge the scientific truth of evolution.

However, when serving as a congressman, Pence made it clear that he opposes evolution, and believes that only creationism (intelligent design) provides a “rational explanation for the known universe.”In 2002, Pence delivered a passionate speech on the floor of the House of Representatives arguing that evolution is “only a theory” and that public schools should teach the theory of intelligent design as well as the theory of evolution. -

Trump is playing it wit the unpredictability card and sooner or later he is going
to go to the well once too often. The public at large is not likely to vote for him,
and there could even be a surprise at the convention who knows the Republicans
are at the low ebb of credibility

Wrong as usual DG!
