As a Christian, I have an issue with this

Ah, the beauty of socialism.

Socialist might be the wrong word here, but I'd say I'm very socialistic when it comes to public education. Providing a free meal to students at school is a good idea in my opinion. Now that is money well spent. I'd say even give them breakfast before class, lunch at noon, and supper after school in cases of parents who fall below a certain poverty line.

But don't you think they'd learn valuable lessons about personal responsibility if they starved?

Oh silly me. Maybe we can open schools on the old indian residential-school model. Have kids work in the field growing crops and fixing the school for half of the school day and still underfeed them.

Come to think of it, why have public schools at all. If the parents can'd pay for the kid's education, we should just send him to a factory.

That wouldn't be teaching them enough personal responsibility. Whose land is that they're growing crops on to feed themselves? They should pay rent.

Again, silly me. Factories could make use of their little fingers to clean the inside of shells and such. Much less expensive than buying machines to do it.

Compassion and empathy are only useful for marketing. If the kid was a true American he would capitalize on that. He should probably be vetted for Islamic or communist sympathies. Ban all starving children until we figure out what the hell is going on.
That is obviously above your pay grade.
